mr1 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 On a scale of 1-10,1 being easy, how difficult is it to change chain & sprockets on a 98 fazer 600 Quote
Stu Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 depends on your ability for me its a 1 you could be a 10 Quote
megawatt Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 If it's a solid chain. without a split link, you will need a chain splitter/rivetter, about £50. Removing sprockets is usually easy, sometimes front one needs a big socket and persuasion. Like Stu says, depends how mechanically minded you are. I used to do chain splitting/rivetting with an anglegrinder and two hammers, but I wouldn't recommend a novice doing it that way. Quote

I dont think they realise that with a rivetting tool all your doing is the same bloody thing Quote
mr1 Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Looks like I'll be paying someone to do then :'( Quote
acting_strange Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 You never learn until you try something Quote
mr1 Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 yeah I guess, but havnt got suitable tools, not gonna go and buy a chain splitter and then find I can't do it anyway Quote
megawatt Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 You're about an hour from me . Price up getting a bikeshop to do it and then PM yer number for a chat?I've had people slagging me off for using the anglegrinder, two hammer method, but I did it on my dragbike with 200BHP going through it and never had a problem Quote
megawatt Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I can do the job for you or you can do it while I advise. Can do any other jobs at the same time??? Quote
acting_strange Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 LOL....Iv'e never had a chain splitter.....but always managed to replace chains.... Quote
Ricky Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 LOL....Iv'e never had a chain splitter.....but always managed to replace chains.... Neither did I when I took my chain off, I used a few screwdrivers haha, worries me a bit now Quote
megawatt Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Main problem I have had is new rivet links are very difficult to get the new sideplates on. I use Gold chains and I prefer not to scratch em with two pairs of molegrips!!! Quote
