Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hi, I've recently brought a 2nd hand Honda cbf 600 & I've read the owners manual & the bike appears to be starting with the choke fully closed everytime. Everytime I pull the choke out it either cuts out or won't start.. :S Im used to fuel injection & according to the manual I'm doing everything correctly. Oddly enough it's starting first time every time with the choke in, has a previous owner switched things around or something? :S Does the CBF have some kind of automatic cut out of you try to use the choke when the bikes too warm?PS: I live in the midlands so it definitely shouldn't warm enough to be starting with the choke in I would have thought.Thanks Quote
acting_strange Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Are you letting it warm up enough before you are pulling the choke off??...are you easing the choke off as its warming up?My Suzi 500 used to take a good 5 mins to warm up before I could release the choke fully...Also has it been stood for long before you bought it as the jets could need cleaning out... Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 No what I mean is, is starting with the choke in Accortimg the the manual it should be pull out for a cold start. It's cutting off when I pull it out.. :S It's just been serviced, I'm just struggling to see how it's starting with the choke lever pushed in all the time & cutting out when it's pulled out. If I gradually pull it out once it's started it'll rev up from 1k to 2k then hit a point & cut out... :S It's either the manuals wrong or I am as far as I can tell :L Quote
Stu Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 the manual is right it sounds to me like the choke is killing it at a certain point which will happen in this weather the choke is working fine if the revs are rising you probably just need to get used to it and not pull it all the way out and just a little bit Quote
Tango Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Yeah.....maybe it doesn't need any choke at this time of the year.......or maybe the air filter is choked and it's running rich anyway......and adding choke to it just floods the engine..... It is injected isn't it?.......would have thought a 2007/2008 bike would be......if so I'm suprised it has a manual choke?..... Quote

He told me it wasn't & I assumed after how many years of owning he'd be correctly informed & have no reason to lie :L My only other injected bike used to buzz for a few seconds after turning the ignition & I was told that was the injection setting it's self up or adjusting which this bike doesnt. But now raises the question why does the owners manual say that it does have a manual choke? :SI do love my motorbikes but I'm a complete novice when it comes to the mechanics of them so thanks for the help haha. chris_589 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 It should have carbs and a choke, the change over was late 2007 early 2008 to the injected 600 engine. As said previously the choke shouldn't be needed that much this time of year, from what you've said I'd say it was fine just might need a little tinkering towards winter but I doubt it.C Quote

I thought most bikes from the mid 2000's were injected to meet the emission regs......my 2003 Speed 4 and my 2005 Sprint and Speed Triple were all injected..... Anyway mate.....hopefully your question has been answered.......it don't need any choke this time of year...... Quote

Stu Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 get on and ride if you can is the best way you get less engine wear and the bike will warm up properly too when ridden just because the temp gauge says its warm it doesnt mean the oil is warm enough engine oil warms up faster when ridden/worked If you can start the bike and it run with no choke without stalling and get on and ride for me that would be the way to go not all bikes require choke and some are a lot worse then otherspersonally what I do is start bike ear plugs in helmet and gloves on adjust mirrors and go Quote

eastanglianbiker Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 a lot of bikes will start quite happily with no choke when cold in this kind of weather and putting the choke on will only serve to make it run to rich and stop it running,dont worry about not using choke at the moment and you will find that it will soon not want to start as weather cools down later in the year Quote
