Seems I have a leaky from fork on my Honda cbr125, as anyone tried these "seal mates" to help with the problem? When I went for a ride yesterday, I could see "greenish" watery oil dripping on the floor after the ride (assume this is the fork).

Although for a leak as big as this I don't know if this tool is going to do a good enough job at getting rid of the problem.

Thanks

Watch the oil hasnt gone on your brake disc(s). I just had my for seals fail and now I need a new set of brake pads :(

greeny watery liquid? is it running off the bottom of the forks or from the front of the fairing? sounds like it could be coolant to me rather than fork oil dont think ive ever used/seen green fork oil

I assumed it was fork fluid as it was slightly oily, this could be the properties of the coolant anti-freeze perhaps?

Yes, looking at a few vids of fork seal replacements and all the fluids seem to be "red".

I will run the engine stationary tonight and see where the leak it coming from.

check coolant level BEFORE running engine anymore in case you have got a leak and its low on coolant if you are not sure a pic of where its leaking from might help

I would dip my finger in and taste it. Not recommended as its poisonous, but antifreeze has a very distinctive taste :)

Oddly enough so does oil  antifreeze usually tastes sweet btw

Personally I prefer petrol, half a glass with my t every night.

You'd see oil down the fork leg if you had a leaky fork seal.......so, if you can't see any oil running down the fork leg then it's more likely to be coolant......either from the overflow pipe....or possibly from the radiator as others have said......

Ok, tonight I will check the fluid level before running. wipe the bike down. Then run the bike.

I am leaning more towards the problem being coolant, hopefully I can find the leak.

I will pump the front forks a number of times, wipe clean, inspect and repeat, to see if I can see any residue of oil on the fork.

I would like to avoid the "taste" method :D

Doesn't look like it is a very inviting evening for riding the bike :(

If it is coolant it could be coming from the expansion tank overflow pipe.......mine does that regularly if the bike has got hot sitting in traffic......

yea best not to taste if you can help it,was the temp gauge saying the bike was running hot when you could see the fluid dripping?check coolant level in rad and also check expansion bottle to make sure the level is between minimum and maximum lines on the side if there is any

Good point, this is the first thing I checked after coming back from yesterday's ride before switching the engine off. I noticed some steam coming out between the front forks (not masses of it), but then checked the temp and showing in the middle between min and max (more the cooler side).

I have the bike manual now, so will follow the procedures to check the fluids.

Ok, after yesterdays ride looks like I lost some coolant fluid, I am below the min line.

The bike manual says use "High quality ethylene glycol antifreeze containing silicate-free corrosion inhibitors".

I have some of this stuff for my car http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/ ... =250391358, can I use this or do you guys/girls recommend specific bike coolants?

Once I top it up I can run the engine and try to find the leak

edit: seems you can get specific bike engine coolants http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat ... nt&_sop=15
