Looking for some help here, I've posted a thread on the deauville forum too but was hoping you guys could chip in.

Long story short the bike in neutral will rev through the range, in 1st it will go up a fair bit (I haven't red lined it) In second the power dies off at 5-6k revs. In 3rd and above she just struggles to get over 5k revs. She doesn't misfire when she runs out of puff.

Also when idling, every now and then she misses a beat and there's a click from the carb area

Here's a video

So far I've done the following

Stripped and cleaned carbs - No tears in rubber bits etc

Clean fuel

Ran without the fuel pump, and fuel filter to narrow it down.

Checked to ensure no kinks in fuel pipes etc

Ensured all carb rubbers are seated correctly

Checked throttle sliders are moving freely and also the butterflies open fully

balanced carbs and ensured fuel mix is close to factory setting.

I'm at an end as to where to go other than possibly spark plugs, but I'm reluctant to throw money at her.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Long time ago I remember having a similar issue with my car carburettor - I think I ended up cleaning some very narrow fuel channels in it - deposits blocked them and under load the fuel was not enough to rev the engine. was spinning ok under no load.

Don't know if it would help but what do the spark plugs look like? Are they giving a good spark? Just wondered if something other than carbs restricting engine as it sounds like you've done a good carb check.

I was just about to say the same! The mixture in cylinders is different when running with no load and under load, worn spark plugs may struggle "sparking" under load.

I've only been able to check one spark plug, the front one is a nightmare to get out without the correct tool. Which I'm currently waiting on. It seemed ok, no strange deposits etc.

I'm at the point where I might strip the carbs back down AGAIN! and give it another cleaner through because it's really winding me up

I've set it to the factory (2 turns out) and at idle it runs fine apart from that occasional drop in the revs with the pop.

It's strange, only way I can describe it is if you think about driving a car, if you've ever hit the rev limiter on it the power tails off as you reach it then it just sits at a set amount of revs. That's the closest I can think of

Ht leads ok? Battery fully charged? Air filter clear?

On a car I would say air leak somewhere maybe.

HT Leads look ok but I haven't tested their resistance yet.

Battery is good and fully charged.

Air filter is pretty clean, certainly not dirty enough to cause problems from my experience.

I've got to work today so it'll take a back seat until tomorrow and I'll go out and check again for air leaks, but I'm pretty sure it's all tight :)

I'm out of ideas now then! All the best with ffinding a solution. Hope it's not something like a limiter lol!

Have you tried spraying some carb cleaner round the inlet rubbers while it's running?

It does sound like something carby is blocked.fuel starvation or the timing is a bit iffy.

Main jet kicks in around those revs. Sounds blocked!

It was spotless when I took it apart, but I think it might be an idea to do it again and clean them. For all the time it takes once the carbs are off the bike anyway

Hi is the motor revving clean in neutral or spluttering? is this fault immediate as soon as you go through the gears, or do's it come after a while of riding? Question question l know!

It could it be that the fuel tank breather is blocked, fuel flow issues, maybe the air filter or even the exhaust might be choking the engine. Just a process of ticking them all off one by one.

Hope you soon sorted.

I might be on to something...I don't think this is how it should look when you open the float bowl!!!

I'm hoping this is what the issue has been. Wish I'd opened up the carbs the last 3 times they were off!

Fitted new plugs aswell. Unfortunately when I was cranking the bike the battery Ko'd. SO got it on charge just now but won't get a chance to take it out because I need to leave for work at 3. Fingers crossed!

is that a brass carb jet under the float at the top of the pic and if so i would say its meant to be in the big hole and that will be the cause of it not revving as it will be just flooding
