johnnyturnip Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I've been looking at the range of xena disc locks... Trouble is my bike is garaged it's an 04 Daytona so I'm not sure what size to go for. The xx14 looks good but which model fits?..cheers!! Quote
johnnyturnip Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 When i say garaged i mean its at the mechanics so i cant measure the disc at the min. Quote
9bhp Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Personally disc locks are just a deterrent to opportunists, so I think spending over £50 for a fango dango one is just a false economy.I just brought a second hand one from ebay for a fiver. I do keep it in a locked garage but I put this disc lock on to buy me a few more seconds to get down the stairs... to offer them a cuppa tea Baby monitor and a hammer is the best security on the market I digress, I wouldn't waste your hard earned on some well branded piece of metal. Just get a second hand one Quote
Tango Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I got an Oxford Omega (thatcham approved) at the BMF show in Peterborough a few years back.....£10..... I agree that the disk lock is just a deterrent from the casual thief.....a determined thief will have your bike no matter what security you have on it..... Quote
Guest Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Baby monitor is the best security on the market nice idea Quote
johnnyturnip Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Yeah i understand all the comments above and appreciate them. It'll just give me that extra piece of mind when I'm out and about.my problem is I'm not gettin my bike back for a day or two so measure the discs i just want to get one ordered now and not sure what locking pin to go for as most have a 6mm others 10mm or 14mm.. Quote
Tango Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Normally the locking pins will go through the holes in the disk rotor carrier and these holes are normally reasonably big....so the 10mm and probably the 14mm should fit..... See the picture on this ad and you'll see that the holes where the pin will go through are pretty big: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Dayto ... 2572c5ebee Quote
johnnyturnip Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Cheers tango!! i do understand if someone wants it'll just go on the back of a van. Quote
Tango Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 No probs mate...... Not saying to not bother with a disk lock......just saying that you probably don't need to spend a fortune on one..... Any Thatcham approved lock should be OK.... Quote
Mr Fro Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 FYI - Halfords is doing ground anchors at a hefty discount at the mo. Quote
ApolloMozart Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I came up with another idea...Went to halfords and bought a wireless doorbell. Also bought a small 12v relay and a tilt switch. The tilt switch is connected in parallel to the button on doorbell remote, and adjusted in such a way that will short the contacts when the switch is horizontal. The relay disconnects the pushbutton battery when ignition is on. And here is how it works. When ignition is off and the bike is on side stand, the relay is off and battery is connected to the button. As soon the bike is taken off the stand and is upright, the tilt switch shorts the contacts and the doorbell base inside the house rings. I get out and have a word with the thieves. When ignition is ON, the relay is disconnecting the battery from the pushbutton and even if the tilt switch is on, the bell does not sound.I also have a normal alarm, a disk lock and a chain. The good thing about the wireless doorbell is that I can take the base with me on trips.Hopefully at least one of these will deter a thief... ApolloMozart Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 planning to have a dog tied up to the bike too... Quote
