lost keys and ecu

my mate lost his keys borght new ignition,seat lock and petrol lock.

He didnt know that the keys needed programing to the ecu, fitted the igntion turned the key, fuel pump primed, abit of smoke come from the new ignition so he turned it off. Now nothing, obviously.

So will it of damaged anything? Ecu etc

Hes saying its a £1000 fix.

A non programmed key shouldn't feck the ECU, just fail to work IMHO. However, a mis-wired ignition barrel could, but you'd have to try hard to do that if you bought one with the right plug/socket already attached.
