klingelton
The last few days we've seen some inclement weather in our fair British isles. It's fair to say that I've been something of a drowned rat by the time I rock up into work. I've developed leaks where there were previously no leaks. And so I think it's time to have a go at re-proofing my textiles from water ingress. What do you people do to re-proof?
Guest Hodgy
I use Nikwax Tech Wash to wash my textiles in then Nikwax TX Direct to re proof them, you can get it from bike shops, but it's usually cheaper from camping shops
Tango
Some suggest Fabsil.....also available from camping shops.....but TBH waterproof waterproofs is a bit of a Holy Grail.....
Guest
sorry.. but these products do not make textiles water PROOF. what they do is rejuvenate the ability of the surface to bead water. this is very different. compare the pressure from rain water falling on a Tent. to rain hitting you at 60 mph while riding on a bike. some of the water will be beaded off.. but a fair amount will be forced through. This is why most materials have a barrier - maybe goretex to prevent water getting through. cheaper 'goretex' clones tend to break down after a few years so only have a limited life span. I would seriously look at replacing or upgrading to goretex - which will not leak and if it ever does - they will replace it for you or offer you a refund. klingelton
cheers chaps. I will get a bottle of each of those products and conduct a test to see which is best. i have a pretty generic leak in each of my arms.and i agree - waterproof waterproofs are the holy grail. My RST slice are not too bad though - they're a couple of years old as well.
Lumor_uk
I've just got some waterproof alphine stars. except the seated area is not waterproof. really annoyed. water doesn't even bead on it. so I get a wet bum if it seriously rains or my seat is wet before I jump on it.goretex doesn't come with a lifetime warranty as far as I'm aware? it breaks down as much as other materials when used in boots at least.I also bought a triumph touring jacket that comes with a wind and waterproof inner. once removed the jacket leaks at the zips. there was no warning on purchase only on the label when it arrived.
