Indicators Rapid Flashing/Replacement Question

Hello peeps, first time posting here and with a small problem no less!

Basically, I bought an Aprilia RS 125 recently to get me around for work, It's due for It's MOT and I've noticed the indicators flashing over the 120 limit.

I've done alot of scouring online and found It's either that a bulb or so has gone, or i need to get an LED flasher relay. I've checked tho and It seems one bulb on each of my indicators has gone out, however I took one of them out and can't find anywhere that has matching ones, additionally in my Aprilia handbook it says that the indicator bulbs are not even replaceable!

The only thing I can think to do is to buy a new set of Indicators and try replacing my old ones with em and getting a Relay for it. I have noticed though that there seems to not be a clear cut answer as to which relay I should be getting, is there anyway someone can point me in the right direction?

I found a set including a relay on Amazon, but I have no idea if there even a viable option with my bike:

I'd like to add I am still a total noob where motorbikes are concerned and still have ALOT to learn so take it easy on me please!

Cheers

Welcome to TMBF Marv.....pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can.... 8-)

If the current indicators have bulbs in then you must be able to replace them.....it's just a matter of finding the right bulbs. Have you looked on eBay?

Good luck.... 8-)

Heya mate, I'll head into the newbie section in just a mo!

In reply to your answer though, are you saying, if I can take one of the bulbs out, then they are definitely replaceable??

Each of the indicators has 4 of these mini bulbs in them, one on each seems to have died, the closest ive found is:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-MINI-INDICATOR-BULBS-12V-23W-AMBER-Set-of-4-/150967205565?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item232658bebd#ht_2410wt_952

However the ones I pulled out look more like this:

https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/1127/IND-0194-10PK.html

AND finally here's how my indicators themselves look like:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APRILIA-RS50- ... 1321wt_952

Im such a noob as that I don't even know if they're LED or not!

Apologies about my lack of pure concrete information!!

Thanks again for your time :)

Are the indicators flashing really fast or just a little bit fast? I don't think the mot testers count how many flashes they do in a minute, just that they do light up and flash.

They do light up really fast, If I had to guess I'd say probably about 150 times a minute or so. If they don't check the flashes per minute then that'd be a winner but I'm pretty sure they do :(

I'm probably going to end up buying myself a set of 4 new indicators at 14 quid a go :( sucks big time but these mini bulbs are impossible to find!

Any ideas on decent, reliable LED Relays?? Maybe someone out there who replaced theres on an Aprilia in the past, or just any suggestions at all! I know this is probably such a piddly problem to all

I'm not sure that the indicators on your bike are the originals.....looks like it's had LED ones fitted at some point.

The trouble with the cheap LED indicators like the ones you are looking at is that they are often not very bright....and are notoriously fragile.....and you'd need either an LED compatible flasher relay or load resistors.

Yea I didn't think they would be the best choice to be honest. Anyway, what I've done is order myself a genuine (hopefully) Aprilia Indicator, I'm just going to take the bulbs out of that thing, and use them to replace the ones that aren't working on my current ones. HOPEFULLY, with a bit of luck, that should sort my fast flashing problem.. Maybe get a Relay aswell just incase :?

those units fitted to the bike already are led units hence why you cant find bulbs to fit,you will either have to replace all 4 with standard indicators using standard bulbs or go with more led ones and put a relay in for them

Aye, well my current plan is to take the bulbs? out of the new one I've ordered and use them to replace the ones that have gone out currently on my bike, as I have been able to take them out and swap them around (the little bulbs that is) they should hopefully fit as they are the same model.

Something that struck me though, was on the ApriliaGenuineParts website, my models Indicators are listed as being '4led' as standard, If that's the case then I would of thought I wouldn't need seperate Relay for them considering they come like that?

Is it possible that the relay has been changed at some point for a non led type had the same problem with mine.

Ah ok yea that's true, I've had a look at some Relays on ebay, these are the ones I've found, hoping mine takes 3 pin!

I'd take my current one out to take a look but I'm in work atm, so ya, I'm pretty useless!

EDIT: http://www.redrosebikeparts.co.uk/Aprilia-RS-125-2006-Flasher-Relay

Same bike, same year! Obviously not an LED relay, but atleast I have the layout I need :D

EDITEDIT: SO I'm pretty much set in stone with what I'm gonna do now, cheers for ya help folks, mucho appreciated!
