RantMachine Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I haven't had any stupid ideas lately and my summer shifts leave me with some extra days off, so I've decided to address my pannier situation; One of my biggest criteria for my first big bike was that it HAD TO HAVE LOTS OF LUGGAGE SPACE! I love my camping so the storage space is a must. But, all the repair costs after getting it ate up my budget for extra bits and left me in debt and with no panniers (bike came with a topbox). So, can't afford panniers and I'm thinking about making some myself. Disaster will probably ensue, but what the heck. Saw this guide and it looks pretty solid - apart from the vague details about how they mount https://sites.google.com/site/rtwxtz660/alluboxesSo, had anyone tried doing this sort of thing before? Any recommendations for the mounting? And yes, this will probably turn out to be a cack handed health hazard. But stuff it, I only ever learn the hard way... Quote

Throttled Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Numptyspence is spot on, there are lots of DIY pannier threads on the various adventure bike forums. I would be surprised if it can be done cheaper than Adam's suggestion of second hand and then a tart up. My cheap solution was from this excellent companyhttp://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/Dry-B ... .html#a744I bought the 60l rucksack as the shoulder straps can be removed leaving the bag with only two small straps to help bungee it to the bike. £23, bone dry and tough.
