Guest Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Anyone know the answer to this? I have a nice engine sound and rubbish exhaust sound... want some beef! Quote
Stu Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 You will probably struggle to remove the stock ones! And I can't see there been anything cheap about! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 standard ones are welded in no choice but change can and link pipe if you want different sound Quote
Guest Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Toce slip on it is then... Yes stu... expensive these twin underseats Quote
Stu Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 The standards maybe welded in but some can be removed and replaced with a straight bit of pipe The hardest part is getting in to them as some are sealed in such a way that it will destroy them when they are opened which I can see been the problem on the R1 Quote
DreamytimeEscorts Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Anyone know the answer to this? I have a nice engine sound and rubbish exhaust sound... want some beef! Use an electric drill and a masonry bit. Quote
Rebel Rach Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Take the end caps off, drill the spot welds that hold the standard baffles in place, buy 56mm perforated exhaust tube off eBay cut tubes to the right length wrap in exhaust matting refit end caps and re pop rivet end caps on. You end up with something that sounds just like an Akro for less than £40. Simples. This is exactly what UK190 did on his 2008 R1. Quote
Guest Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Sounds like something I'd probably make a pig's ear of Quote
Tango Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 PM Megawatt.....he'll probably help you do it for a reasonable price.... Quote

Guest Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Got in touch with Megawatt who was more than happy to help, but;I found this really good step-by-step guide which makes it look simple enough and since my dad is more than handy with this type of thing, I'm going to have a bash at it!If anyone has anything to add that might have been missed it would be appreciated http://www.yamaha-forum.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3125Ordered everything I need so with a bit of luck, on Sunday I should have the beefy sound it deserves! DreamytimeEscorts Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I still maintain that sticking a masonry bit down the pipe and drilling to the end is the way to go but good luck! Quote

DreamytimeEscorts Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I did it to my R1 and my FZ1. The R1 made no difference but sounded better but got a noticeable (if small) increase in power and noise on the FZ Quote
Guest Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I did it to my R1 and my FZ1. The R1 made no difference but sounded better but got a noticeable (if small) increase in power and noise on the FZ LOL but WHAT did you do!? that's my question - where are you drilling and why? Quote
DreamytimeEscorts Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I stuck the drill bit straight down the exhaust with the end can in situ. Why? It seemed like a good idea Quote
Stu Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Drilling a hole won't be as good as putting a straight perforated pipe in You want as least restriction as possible Quote
Guest Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Isn't that also messing around with back pressure and potentially causing a lean fuel delivery? Quote
Stu Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 opening any exhaust will mess about with back pressure!! you loose mid range with less back pressure but gain more top end the best way really is to go straight through and fit a power commander Quote
Guest Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Exhaust successful de-baffled and sounds great! Quote
