mealexme Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 So, I've had my rear tyre replaced because of a puncture after 5 months of use, and then another one a month later but now I suspect the front has one too. The best way to test it really would be to put it in water, so the question is, will taking it off and putting it in the bath tub do any damage to the bearings or anything? And to put it back on, would it be a simple case of wiping with kitchen towel and smearing with copper grease?Just working out jobs for tomorrow Quote
Guest Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Taking the tyre off??? What is this madness - just spray some water + washing up liquid around the tyre, that will show ya Quote
Mr Fro Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Can you not leave it on the bike and bring the water to it?I'd rather stick it on the stand and get a washing up bowl/similar under the wheel than take the thing off. Quote
mealexme Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 sorry, put the whole wheel in waterIve tried the water on it, but it just runs off, especially out of the treads, where the last puncture wasAlso, it rules out the valve leaking Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 you dont need to submerge the whole wheel just the bottom of the wheel to cover up to just above the tyre bead watch and slowly turn it in the water that way you dont get the bearings wet Quote
cockercas Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Mix water and washing up liquid together and spray that on. Pump the tyre up f it's lost pressure. Cover the valve with it to. If airs comming out there will be bubbles. Quote
pointblank0 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Also, buy yourself a tyre plugging kit. The way roads are left uncleaned nowadays will end up getting very expensive replacing the tyre each time. Quote

I really hope its not punctured. I've already spent over £500 on tyres in the past 6 months :/ Quote

I understood the only thing preventing a hole being repaired is if it wasn't within the middle part of the tyre ? Quote
fq-craigus Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Plenty of washing up liquid and it womt run off too quick, use a squirty bottle. If fails like already said lift feomtwheel and submerge past the rim in water and turn it Quote
