Hi guys,

Im on working on my XV535 again, and the front brake caliper doesn't want to bleed.

I found that the bleed nipple on the front caliper had been snapped by whoever owned the bike before, and then broken what looks like a mechanics drill bit or an easy out into the hole. It looked air tight, so I have fitted a banjo bolt/bleed nipple combo onto the inlet for the brake hose on the caliper. I'm trying to reinstall the caliper, but can't get any pressure when I bleed the brakes. The banjo bolt is making a sucking noise, and the reservoir is full but no liquid is coming out of the hose.

Any advice or suggestions?

Give the master cylinder a few taps with a spanner or something metallic. It's not unusual to get an air lock in there when you do a drain.

You need to bench bleed the mc if it's been emptied. Or just crack the banjo bolts at the mc/squeeze the pipe between the res and mc if it's that style.

This happens on the blade when I service the calipers. 50ml syringe with some clear 5mm tubing always works. I attach to the bleed nipple and draw the fluid through. Works every time.

Fitting a banjo bleed nipple bolt to the calliper will only allow you to bleed that section of hose up to the point of that bleed nipple as l see it. To get the air out of the calliper you have got to force oil into the calliper and the air out, you've got to get that broken nipple out. I can't see a way round it l'm afraid.
