Sunsprie Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Hi, my dragster 650 will only start when I pull the choke out, it starts first time when the chokes out then an I put the choke back in and it's fine. Any ideas? I only got the bike yesterday and don't have my module 2 passed yet, it's driving me crazy I just wanna take her out for a long journey. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Keep just firing it up on full choke and then letting it just idle could be choking it up you are better off leaving it alone or getting someone with full licence to give it a run but please don't be tempted to do it yourself as it would be a shame to risk your licence Quote
Sunsprie Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 No I will wait until I get my licence, wouldn't wanna risk anything. I'd love to know why it just starts on the choke though. Quote
Edd Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Had it been sitting for while? Mine had before I bought it and it took a few days of regular use before it improved. Starts fine now! Quote
Sunsprie Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 Yeah it was sitting for abit, actually seemed ok this morning, I wanna keep the bike in really good nick, it's only got 6000miles on it and looks perfect. I decided to take it a spin round the block was running for about 5-10mins not going faster than 30mph, when I got back the engine and pipes where roasting hot? Is this normal? Sorry for the questions, it's my first big bike and I wanna keep her good. Quote
Stu Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 So you have been riding a bike with no licence and insurance? Are you stupid? This is the reason why insurance is so high in the first place What do you think would have happened if you had crashed into something or someone? And at worse killed someone? Quote
Sunsprie Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 No I'm not stupid, I rode the bike down my street which is empty at no more than 30mph, if even 30. It's not like I was out burning her down busy roads or even a moderately busy road. Pretty sure anyone who has bought a new bike has giving her a try safely. Quote

Bonniebird Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 My Bonnie nearly always needs a bit of choke from cold unless it is a very hot day. This time of year it has a few secs on full choke and a minute or so on half choke before I push it in. Quote
Tango Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Yeah....a lot of bikes need choke to start, but often the choke can be turned off almost immediately.... Quote
Sunsprie Posted April 12, 2015 Author Posted April 12, 2015 That's good to know, thanks Tango/bonniebird! Quote
Joeman Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Thats what the choke is for!!Use i t when starting and once running take it off choke.. What's wrong with that??When you're licenced to ride legally and you go for long enough rides to get it warm, you shouldn't need the choke to start a warmed up engine. Quote
Sunsprie Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Nothing wrong, I was just making sure because I never had to use the choke ever on my 1st bike, the virago. Quote
