I must admit I'm more of an STI guy myself

Hawkeye is imo the best looking proper impreza shape. I was just put off by how many inprezas were about and how tempermental they are with tuning, but had i not had a childhood obsession with the evo i would have bought an sti

My obsession is with the Z33. I'd add a tt kit, a wing and a carbon hood so it looked something like this:

Where's the individuality that comes from drilling extra holes in your exhaust to "make more power" or sticking a huge power-bulge on the bonnet of your Nova?

"Pah" I say to those who merely follow trends.

Oh and by the way - back in the day, if it wasn't a red top we didn't give a shit. :-)

Were only talking hypothetically, I can't even dream of owning a car like that for years... A twin turbo kit alone costs like £6000. And of course I wouldn't copy it exactly, it was just to give an idea, I totally understand the individuality thing.

I had this when I was around 40, used to work in a garage that did a lot of mods for cars.it started off as a brand new 1.4 sport, then a 1.6 on throttle bodies then a 2lt 16v and then finally 2ltr turbo with 240 BHP. It had stripped out interior , big brakes carbon bonnet and no diff so was a handful but fun.

That's the kind of silliness I used to engage in with my chummies. It turns out the easiest way to do an engine transplant on an old GM is disconnect the... well, everything on the front, lift the body off with a forklift and plonk the new one on.

Proper redneck stuff. :-)

I never really modded my first couple of cars much, first was an old Renault 5 1.4, I put some 6x9 speakers in it and did plan to put some alloys on but unfortunately I clipped the kerb being an idiot with one of my mates and bent the front suspension, the car was worth so little it got scrapped, next I got a Peugeot 306, I can't remember the model think it was an XS so had alloys etc on already so didn't do much with that either.

I think if you get the right car as it is then you don't need to do much with it, personally I'd rather spend more on a car I liked standard than spend money on modding.

Did used to love the old hot hatches though, I always hankered after a Fiesta RS Turbo or a Renault 5 GT Turbo but couldn't afford the insurance.

I've had a couple of quick cars later on but in my early 30s I've realised I only really enjoy bikes and can't be bothered to run a performance car that I never get the opportunity to use properly.

If I were to buy a chav car I'd get a Supra ofcourse! Brilliant mod-able machines...

My boy racer car was a pug 205 GTi. Started life as a 1.6 but I bought a race tuned 1.9 engine off a bloke who built slick50 race cars. Bolted it to the 1.6 gearbox to create better acceleration.

Had avo coilovers, tsw blade alloys and a whole bunch of other mods like group-n exhaust and Fse fuel pressure regulator and K&N cone filter. It was a fast little car, easily beating the local RS-Turbos and XR4i's despite the stickers they all seemed to have on the back claiming they were 300BHP!!

I very nearly traded my 200SX turbo for a supra..

I'm the opposite, I'd rather spend money on modding because it is your creation and can be exactly the way you like it instead of having little things you don't like which there is bound to be on any stock car. I'd do it for the enjoyment too, I seem to want to modify everything I own. Although I remember reading this on the 350z forum, "Takes way too much time and money to make a car fast. I can go faster for cheaper by eliminating 2 wheels. Plus it is much more fun."

Good old vauxhall, cost about a grand to drop the turbo in and running only have to make 1 engine mount and modifying bits from other vauxhalls. You could make a right sleeper for about 1500 quid .

I like thestock designs tweeked, like a slight accent colour, change wheel colour and carbon accesories

I can understand why people do it and the appeal of it, just personally it doesn't appeal to me, plus with my car now doing any mods would just make it look like really chavvy, I even waited to buy one without blacked out windows!!.

A lot of my mates have the mark 1 Mazda MX5.

I always wanted an RX7 but they are too costly, so maybe an RX8 that has a bit of a more butch body kit from the later model (spoiler and beefier trim), and then try and see if I can turn it from a twin rotor, to a quad. It will be a money pit when I do it, and I have a lot to do before that life wise. But that's going to be my stab at a 350BHP machine

Well I suppose it depends on the car really, most of the people doing big mods to their small fiesta or corsa probably are a bit chavy... but modding a car like an s2k or something isn't going to make you look like a chav.

Just drop a turbo in it you could get like 300whp fairly easy I think

The MX5 are good, fun cars to drive and cheap too but I bloody hate them - just too many about for my liking! Even the old codger next door has one parked next to his BMW soft top w**k-mobile.

You can pick up very cheap RX8s now Fozz - mainly because the tips and seals need changing but if you're going to have it apart anyway... ;-)

They are much too common now, a lot of my mates have them and then rave about them but while they are good, it's mainly because they can't afford anything else, which is turning them into peasant wagons

I intend tofirst find someone who services rotary engines, then pay them to let me sit in on a tip and seal refurbish, and then do it myself on one I buy. I've always wanted to learn about the rotary engine as it just looks great to work on in general. Mazdas tend to be quite typical of Japanese cars, it's all compact but surprisingly easy to work on :)

Anybody else think there should be a car section under the non bike related bit?

No need pal rotarys are easy peasy. Go on youtube and look for rotary engine wheeler dealers, edd does a great section on how to check and replace if needs be. And if its a twin (or quad) just repeat for each chamber you remove. You can pick up these cars sub 1k that need a refurb because they not been maintained. My step mum has one since new, twin rotor, 45k on the clock and mint cond, and its worth under 2k fsh. Its a shame really as they are top cars but very quickly becoming chavs choice if they can afford the ins
