dazziep Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Hi all..I think I need to turn up my idle speed a little as when I first start it up it always starts, ticks over really slow (it doesn't seem to matter what position choke is ) and sometimes stops.. last night was the worst so far. .. it took me ages to keep it ticking over without stalling. .I looked at the carb to see if I could find the idle screw and couldn't. .. I believe it's hiding behind a cover on my model.. (in case you've not seen any of my other posts, I've got a 93 cg125 brazil model..)I've spoke to several different people and looked in Haynes manual about changing idle speed and heard several different ways of doing it.. so I'm a bit confused any tips from any other cg or ex cg owners.. raesewell Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I had an idle screw once, it came back to haunt me 18 years later Quote
dazziep Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Yeah got the manual but unless I'm blind (or just not looking properly which is more like it ) I can't find what I'm looking for .. it just confuses me even more Also spoke to a mate today and showed him and he says firstly I'm doing the choke the wrong way.. I was told on my model down was off.. he said I'd best double check that.. he also thinks my mix is not right and that's the problem not the idling ..He knows a lot more than I do.. Quote
oldie59 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Is there an adjuster with a screw thread attatched to the cable that comes out of the throttle housing on the handlebars, or on the other end of the cable that connects to the carb? If there is you can unscrew it slightly and it should raise the tickover speed. There will probally be a locknut that you have slacken first, but don't forget to retighten it back up after you have adjusted the tickover speed. Quote
Dav3y Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 How does your mate know the mixture isn't right. Did you remove the plug and inspect it ?Could be that the choke isn't working at all if you say theres some confusion over which way it works. Does it make a difference when the engine is warm ?The idle/air screw adjusts the mixture at tick over / low throttle and is usually set and hidden behind a plastic plug. I think what you need might be the throttle stop screw that just holds the throttle open but this is normally set when engine is up to temp otherwise engine would run too fast when warm at tickover.Does the choke appear to be working at all (try it when warm) and try and find the throttle stop screw as others have mentioned. Using the handlebar adjuster on the cable is meant for cable free play and if you adjust that out to raise the tickover you could then find moving the handlebars from side to side alters the tickover.EDIT:- Another thought. Can you get a couple of photos of the carb and post them up here ? Quote
dazziep Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 Sorry for delay been busy. .He doesn't know 100%.. he just had a play with bike and a look and listen.. he never took anything to bits or anything he was just saying what he thought. . Again I'm just getting information overload from all over the place. . I was gonna take some pictures on the weekend but been really busy, but it's getting harder and harder to get it started .. it used to fire up first time and tick over nice till I got a new exhaust fitted.. dazziep Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 This actually seems to be ok even though I've not touched anything. . All I've done is put petrol in.. I know that sounds daft and obvious but there was a bit of petrol in but don't know what is classed as on empty without a petrol gauge...BUTI have a new issue Yeah I know I need to get rid I just can't afford a newer one.I get a grinding noise and you can feel it in the bike when I hit a certain amount of revs. . In all gears.. its fine before and after but hit a certain spot and it sounds and feels awful. .I can't spend much more money on this think .. I expected a bit when I got it as it was cheap.. but just spent 190 quid on new exhaust ..It's costing me a fecking fortune.. Quote
dazziep Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 FIXED The engine was loose.. O_o Tightened up the big bolt connecting it to the frame.. no noise at all.. and no grinding feeling .. its awesome now.. looking forward to taking for a spin instead of just round block Quote

dazziep Posted May 24, 2015 Author Posted May 24, 2015 Took it for a spin today and it was awesome... best ride I've ever had. . (Best either rephrase that or not let the wife see what I've put )It was just really good. . Engine sounded and fealt good and I could just relax and enjoy just riding without worrying if it's gonna die any minute or worst still just fall to bits Quote
