Paul-Kent
So, after my Cornwall run I've noticed my bike (xt660) takes a very long time to fire up from cold. This morning I didn't think it was going to fire at all and the headlight is also not working.Coincidence or is something a miss?Pretty bad timing as my Land Rover is off the road with a split brake pipe also! Stu
Connect it to the land rover battery and try and start it If it fires straight up you are due a new battery
Chrissb6
Check the water in battery it might of boiled dry. Any signs of buckled plates then the battery shot
whitedevil
If the battery is shot its worth checking the alternator and regulator/rectifier are working ok or you'll just kill your new battery.>this< should help
RantMachine
Which model year is your bike? I know the first couple of years of the XT660Z had some nasty reg/rec problems wherein the connector breaks apart over time and they stop feeding power back to the battery, intermittently at first. Unless the 660R has the reg/rec in a slightly more sensible place than the Z (ie. not directly in the spray of the front wheel), that could be your problem. Paul-Kent
It's a 2008, just fired straight up as I popped out to get lunch...Still no light though
RantMachine
That'd be consistent with the 660Z problem then, I know it was 2008-2009 models that suffered from that the most. Maybe check the connections to see if they're corroded - even if it's located a bit more sensibly than it is on the Tenere, it'll probably have the same not-so-great connectors. Paul-Kent
Not had a chance to get it apart and look. Started as normal this morning though
Stu
if you have been doing short runs your battery may have been a bit low on charge!
Paul-Kent
Short runs! I did over 700 miles in 2 days last week [emoji41]Had a look tonight and the headlight is sorted, the connector was disconnected !Looked at the regulator and the terminals are perfectly fine but it was warm to the touch and it had been parked up for at least 10 minshttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/05/5f9fc40a6aa825c5e4df21fe8ccc6972.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/05/0e52aad0c5ec8d935f3f6690aa9f7ff0.jpg
