Same as the previous poster says, relax. You will have had enough practice to get it right, it's just nerves that make it seem harder.

Don't park to close to the white line when you do the U turn. A bloke I was training with had a little wobble at the begining of the U turn and just touched the white line, before turning and failed.

Just take a deep breadth, and visualise what you are going to do, before you start off, as mister-t says its not a race.

Oh and good luck :thumb:

From someone who passed past week:

Practice, practice, practice feathering that clutch. Pick a bike and stick with it for the test.

And more practice. Once you've nailed riding at a slow speed it's easy.

Take your time, breath, if unsure of what to do speak to the instructor.

Also when you meet the instructor, shake his (or her) hand and smile, make them think you're a top banana.

Goodluck! Pass Mod 1, Mod 2 is easy.

failed.the dreaded u turn (someone planted the seed:P) clean sheet at everything else, stayed within the lines ok but had a little bit of a brain fart and turned as soon as i done a lifesaver.should of carried on for one and half car lengths after doing shoulder check, bugger.

Retest booked for 1st sept .

Don't feel bad, majority of people fail on the U-turn, When holding the bike steady and looking over your shoulder it feels unstable and people wobble.

Just practice on your current bike. Keep the revs high, hand OFF the front brake, foot over the rear one slow yourself down if you need to and just play with the clutch for your speed.

Select gear, foot on brake, life saver, start to pull off, lifesaver, get a good distance into the area, lifesaver and begin manouver. do NOT look at the line, look at the end point, if you focus on the line, target fixation = you're going to ride over it.

Also use the space available, my instructor always went on about how most people failed because they tried to do it in such a small area, go right down and you have more time to straighten up at the end!

Good luck you'll be fine ;)

Haven't done a u-turn since my Mod 1 16 months ago. I can understand it being "tested" but don't think anyone ever does it like the test afterwards.

Bad luck mate.......better luck on 1st Sept....... 8-)

I very rarely do a U-turn without trailing my feet.......why it's in the test I don't know........ :?

:stupid:

Agree with above, It's great being able to do it properly, but nobody does because as a biker if I ever realise "Oh I'm going the wrong way" I don't think to turn around, I carry on and go the longer route :D

You only need to do one life saver, before pulling away, so long as you begin the u turn within a reasonable distance (about 2-3 meters). Doing 3 life savers is excessive.

If, however, you drive a fair bit down the white line before beginning the manoeuvre, then a 2nd shoulder check is required.

I was taught, one before you pull away and one as you begin the manouver, The more the better but don't look backwards instead of forwards for the whole time :D

Fair enough, i guess you cant fail for being safe. :D

turned as soon as i done a lifesaver.

I thought that was what you are meant to do.

I just hope your practice was better than this bloke.

nope, once you do the check you should look and continue forward for one and a half car lengths (doh) lol i was bad,but not that bad lol

Thats not how I was shown.

From start, left/right check. pull off, lifesaver and then turn. My instructor actually said, when you do your lifesver, keep your head turned and focus on an object in the distance. All I can say is that I passed with no minors.
