RantMachine Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 (edited) Not long now! So naturally we need a thread for the Dakar that nobody besides me will post in Everybody got their Eurosport subscription paid up? Here's the link for anyone who doesn't already get the channel via Sky:http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk/I saw some unscrupulous folks on another forum mentioning that there are even websites where you can stream Eurosport without paying, but of course I wouldn't condone that And don't forget that Red Bull stick their own highlights on here:http://www.redbull.com/en/motorsports/offroad/rally-raidThis is Joan Barreda's year, I can feel it! RantMachine Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Shame about Stage 1, but Stage 2 was a good laugh! Nice bit of mud Quote
Hoggs Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I clicked on the redbull link and the first vid is that crazy extreme beach racing! I love that! It's just a guaranteed crash-fest. I know it's offtopic but you looked lonely Quote
RantMachine Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 I seem to recall that my last Dakar thread consisted mostly of me talking to myself. And the few threads I've posted about Rally-Reps have gone similarly well Quote
RantMachine Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Also, I've updated the Red Bull link so that it goes straight to the Rally Raid section Quote
Hoggs Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I am less likely to get distracted by stuff that way Cool I shall check out some vids later Quote
Joeman Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I seem to recall that my last Dakar thread consisted mostly of me talking to myself. And the few threads I've posted about Rally-Reps have gone similarly well Dont worry, hoggs is here now to keep you company. Quote
RantMachine Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Tonight's show starts in 2 minutes on Eurosport 1!I saw the results on the Dakar Facebook page earlier today, so I know I'm gonna enjoy this one Quote
RantMachine Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Apparently I checked the results before the penalties were applied. God bloody damn it. Quote
RantMachine Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Okay, so maybe Barreda doesn't deserve a win. He's being a bit of a peenarse racking up all these penalties, he'd have a really solid lead by now if he didn't keep speeding in the untimed sections.Maybe Goncalves deserves to win this year, though. God knows the guy could use a break, he hasn't been the luckiest. I mean, it's got to suck when one of the most iconic photos of your sport is a picture of you crying http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/images/attachement/jpg/site1/20140110/002564bc674514398cfa01.jpg Quote

tPIC Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Cheers RantMachine. I've set this on record thanks to you and have watched the last few days. Really enjoying it - some of the scenery looks amazing but the mud has been awful! Quote
RantMachine Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Awesome, glad you're enjoying it!As a side note, it amuses me that we have almost the same bikes, just I have the older and more decrepit models Quote
RantMachine Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Also - bye bye Bang Bang, better luck next year Quote
tPIC Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Awesome, glad you're enjoying it!As a side note, it amuses me that we have almost the same bikes, just I have the older and more decrepit models Ha - so we do! Great minds and all that..I was rooting for #111 Sylvain Espinasse. Can you believe he's doing this on a Husky 125cc deux-temps ?! (I quite like that's how the French say 2-stroke). 97th overall and still in it.. Quote
tPIC Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Everybody should take a look at Red Bull's Dakar photo of the day pat. Some really great shots on there:http://www.redbull.com/en/motorsports/o ... ly-gallery Quote
RantMachine Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 I was rooting for #111 Sylvain Espinasse. Can you believe he's doing this on a Husky 125cc deux-temps ?! (I quite like that's how the French say 2-stroke). 97th overall and still in it..Yeah, that's pretty awesome! I feel like the race isn't as colourful as it once was, ever since the 450cc limit was imposed and it became more of a factory sport. Back in 1980 there were four Vespas in the race; two of them finished! So it's nice to have someone riding something a bit different Quote
tPIC Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Sensational helicopter footage of Gonçalves crashing in the sand on stage 8. Huge respect, straight back on the bike and back in the race!http://youtu.be/J2E9lu2RcK4 Quote
RantMachine Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah, I shared that one on Facebook last night - forget about MotoGP stuff, THAT is a proper highside Shame it looks like Goncalves is out of the running for another year. He might get onto the podium if a couple of miracles happen, but it's looking grim. Poor bloke doesn't catch any breaks! Quote
Joeman Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 The bike nearly does a completed 180!!Like the way he looks a bit lost at the end... Quote
Hoggs Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 forget about MotoGP stuff, THAT is a proper highside true dat! I thought I was watching the Dakar stuff the other day but turns out it was the Africa Eco thing which apparently is different. .... the guy leading that on the bikes had something like a 6 hour lead!! Quote
RantMachine Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 I never have much luck interpreting the results on the Dakar website, but... it looks as if 77 of the bikes were either knocked out today or got REALLY lost and still haven't made it back after 8.5 hours Tonight's show will be interesting!Oh, and Goncalves has crashed and is in hospital. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, team HRC! Quote
tPIC Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Well I did enjoy following that this year. Eurosport is a bit brief with its coverage, having to cram bike, quads, cars and trucks into its timeslot. Also, some days the sky+ recorded something entirely different so Eurosport must have changed its schedule on at the last minute, so I missed 2 or 3 days. The scenery and resulting footage is amazing.I'll be sure to tune in again next year! Quote
RantMachine Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 Certainly was a fun one, as always! Yeah, Eurosport shafted me a few times too. The organisers have a Youtube channel that's also worth keeping up with, pads things out a bit.Price had one hell of a lead by the end, nowhere near as close a call as last years podium! I should really stop backing team HRC. Or at the very least, never put money on them... Quote
