Guest Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I'm in the process of changing my SR to accept YBR wheels as they have a better RANGE of tyres and most importantly tubeless!Anyway, front forks... YBR forks aren't secured at the top yoke by anything other than being slotted into place. They can only move down, not up but like I said... So security of a screw it whatever. They are however solidly secured in place by the bottom triple clamp (there are only 2). So I'm happy they are not going to move and if they did it can only be down not up... But doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon...Would you be worried or not? Quote
Tiggie Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 As someone who rode his bike for far far too many miles (including a long trip to the tmbf rally) on a front spindle that was held on with jb-weld as the threads had completely gone and I was too cheap/lazy to get it rethreaded I might not be the best person to answer your question p.s. I eventually helicoiled it when I couldn't stop thinking about it coming out every time I rode Quote
RantMachine Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 As long as they are secure enough that they won't come loose under normal riding, and once you're on the rough stuff can't come flying UP to meet you on a harsh landing or if you smack into something, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Quote
Joeman Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Seems very strange they just slot onto the top yoke.Need to be a snug fit otherwise you'd get play in the steering.also means the only thing holding the top yoke to the bottom clamp is the centre bolt.. Scary!! Quote
cockercas Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Just drill the bolt head on the yoke bolts and lockwire them so they can't twist loose if your bothered about it. Quote
Guest Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Perhaps a little more info...Old ones (SR forks) slot into place and then are secured by a cap and screw going through the top. They still can't come up but are secured in place.New ones (YBR) are a very snug fit into the slot but have a different system so can't be locked with the same measurement. The new ones go up through the first clamp slot into the top on and then secured very well at the bottom clamp. They're going nowhere but essentially they are just gripped by the bottom yoke and not the top since the top SR yoke doesn't clamp it uses that washer and screw to secure at the top...Edit:Top yoke on the 97 SR is just a plate... Not a clamp.http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 13&alt=web Quote
RantMachine Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I feel like Shorty should post in this thread, his signature would be incredibly appropriate Quote
Gin Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Sorry to be obscure, but I'm lazy and can't be arsed to google pictures in case I get the wrong years.. Could you post pictures of the two forks systems, including the top yoke's if you can?Edit:Ok so I decided to post what I was thinking even though my first thought was "Wait for more pictures before you opening your big gob.."From that picture you've posted I can see that on the end of each 'arm' of the top yoke is where the top caps secure against, with the forks underneath? The second bore holes in are for..? Handlebar mounts? If you're saying that the YBR ones sit snugly underneath the top yoke, but with no type of screw to secure them to it, do they at least have the nut on top of the fork cap which fits into this original fitment hole? RantMachine Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Also, you should post in the 125cc Idiot Challenge thread. Something along the lines of "YES I WILL JOIN IN" Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 on the sr the fork top cap is what secures them into the yokes thats why there is no pinch bolt.can you not use the ybr yokes as well and if needs be press the stems out and use the sr stem ? Quote

It's different... Quote

Something along the lines of "YES I WILL JOIN IN" Honestly, I post everything I do on my blog... posting here as well is just long for me. I'm doing bits every weekend to either bike and I just can't be bothered posting it all lol. Quote
