rice-pudding Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I'm thinking about buying a ninja 250 and making it a race bike, starting with track days and possibly stepping up to racing. I've seen a few 250's quite cheap. Does anyone else race bikes and what is all involved, costs, time etc? Quote
Stu Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 My mate races he has all the gear and has been doing it for years soo all it costs him is fuel race fees tyres and repairs! It costs him anywhere between 8 and 15 grand a year!! Racing is not cheap! He does his racing on a budget! he doesn't throw money at it like some people do! his race engine costs him 3k given your location travelling will kill you for race meetings You also have to be very fast for racing! there is a massive difference between fast group on a track day and racing! rice-pudding Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 I know, my nearest track in knockhill which is about a 2 1/2 hours drive. It's just somthing I really fancy doing. Go mad round a track not worrying that you're going to smash a artic or a tree or bin your only bike. Quote
Mr Fro Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I know where you're coming from puds. I got my track bike to avoid smashing up my road bike. I think I paid about £700 for it. Once I bought a trailer, tow bar, new tyres, and gave it a good service I'd more than doubled that. Still cheaper than wrecking the other one.All it costs now is service items, tyres and the track day.I'd suggest making sure whatever you get has a V5 so you can run it on the road.I was thinking about ramping up to racing a couple of years ago but I enjoy doing my own thing and I'm not quick enough anyway. If you've got the spare space and cash then go for it! Quote
