hi guys,

im new here and was wondering if anybody could possibly shed some light on an issue thats been driving me crazy for weeks with no result!

Basically i have got a gsxr srad 600 2000 model, it has got four pot front TOKIKO calipers with hel braided lines, both brake lines go to the master from each side of the front wheel.

I have been struggling for weeks with no pressure at all in the brake lever , i have bled the brakes time and time again with no result, i have rebuilt both calipers, new pistons, seals, bleed nipples etc, still no result, i then changed the brake lines to hel braided with new banjo bolts, again no result, i rebuilt the master cylinder with a repair kit, still no preDKLGKssure, i have now just fitted a newer master cylinder off a 2010 gsxr 600 and again the system bleeds fine, but i just cant get any pressure at all in the lever ,

i have read various forums, and watched various youtube videos but it just wont work!

please can somebody advise me if its something im doing wrong here??

Hi and welcome to the forum

the tokico calipers can be a pain in the arse to bleed as the nipple on these is not at the highest point

you need to remove the calipers one at a time and wedge something between the pads get someone to help you

then pump the lever to get some pressure and lightly tap the caliper to get the air moving about you also need to turn the calipers about too

also make sure you crack the banjo bolt at the master cylinder too as you can get trapped air in there again with an assistant it makes life easier

pump the lever up then hold it in while you crack the banjo bolt remember to cover the whole area in rags as brake fluid will go all over the place!!

when i remove the calipers do they need holding high or about their normal height? also is it best to position the caliper in a way that the bleed nipple becomes the highest point of the caliper?

right, been doing that now for a little whil;e and there is a tiny and i mean tiny bit of pressure in the lever now, do you think carrying on might solve this?

It looks like its definitely air in there somewhere

did you also do the master cylinder?

I would keep at it

I spent way too long trying to bleed the tokico's on my TL which I believe are the same! they are a nightmare but once you get them sorted you will be buzzing!

in the end I swapped them for different calipers that where easier to bleed and had more bite

right been doing that for a while now and its just not getting any better,

i have done the banjo bolt bleed on the master cylinder too! it just wont give me any pressure still, i would say its about 5% out of 100 atm!

How about disconnecting one of the brake lines from the master cylinder and try bleeding the one line........then try the other line on its own......just to try to track down where the air is trapped.......

when i am bleeding now the system is sucking the fluid back in, so when i pump the lever a tiny bit comes out but it just bounces and back and forth and goes straight back in through the bleed nipple into the caliper, its now doing it on both calipers

I assume you've got the end of the bleed pipe from the caliper in fluid?

Slacken the bleed nipple, pull the lever in and quickly close the bleed nipple before releasing the lever......easier with 2 people.....but it may just shift the airlock.

With regards to my previous comment.....remove one of the brake lines from the master cylinder ( you may need to use a shorter banjo bolt from the caliper that's not being bled) and then bleed as normal. If this line pressurizes ok, then swap over the brake lines at the master cylinder and try the other caliper. So you're just checking each brake line and caliper individually. .....

you need to pump the lever hold then release the bleed nipple then tighten it back up then let go of the lever

a lot of bleed nipples can let air back in to the system

i have mate, honestly it just doesnt work, ive been bleeding the system for two days solid now, i did it with the calipers off then it gained a tiny bit of pressure but it simply doesnt get better, there has got to be a problem with this braking system somewhere because its abnormal to be this troublesome,

im gonna scrap this sodding bike soon, getting rather fed up of it now

yeah its a strange and very frustating thing this! ive pressure bled it from the top, vacuum bled it from the bleed nipples, manually bled it from the nipples and also reverse bled it with a syringe and its hasnt made jot difference!

Now before anyone listens to anything I say, I'll tell you I'm not a mechanic, no pretty much nothing about bike mechanics and have never ever touched any sort of brake system, apart from the brake lever.

So it sounds like you've tried all the obvious, but have you tried verifying each part works?

I'm thinking take it all apart. Check the lever squirts out fluid, that the master cylinder squirts out fluid, that a line.... Squirts out fluid.

In other words work your way from the top down checking that each and every thing works by unplugging the bit after and checking that you get fluid out.

Granted I realise brake fluid ain't nice, but surely worth it at this point?
