Lumor_uk Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 On ebay £154 to refurbish excluding pistons if they need doing using OEM seals or do it myself?oh I've just seen I can buy the pistons and seals from Suzuki for £78...it says kit does that mean both sides or just one? Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 easy to do yourself and these seals work well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSF-1200-Bandit-T-ST-Nissin-front-brake-caliper-seal-rebuild-kit-1996-/160945578341?hash=item25791aa165:g:W84AAOxydB1SgUnO" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 more than likely I would double check as there is a fair few different calipers fitted across the range get a pic of the calipers Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 part checker says not, says I've got same caliper as an AN400? Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Actually they might be the wrong seals!! are these the same calipers as yours? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Bandit-GSF-600-W-95-99-front-brake-calipers-refurbished-exchange-1998-98-/181675606379?hash=item2a4cb5c16b:g:AssAAOSwEeFU7PAr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 yes they look like they are the ones http://i.imgur.com/GSgAn2g.jpg Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 ignore the first link then as that is for the nissin 4 pots! you want the above link for the rebuild/exchange service which is a good price compared to the one you found Or these seals http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSF600-GSF-600-V-GSF600V-Bandit-1997-97-front-brake-caliper-seal-kit-/181205829093?hash=item2a30b585e5:g:i7kAAOSw5ZBWMj6R" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 what are the chances of a 16k '98 bike pistons being corroded ? I don't want to strip them then have to wait for pistons if I need them Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 it really is hard to say! it depends what sort of life they have had I have seen high mileage ones in great condition and low mileage ones need replacing! The only way to tell is to strip and see A lot of them do clean up really well Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Okay be on your head if I'm push biking to work cheers for the help Quote
Stu Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 You could always pump the pistons out far enough to check them before you strip them Quote
Tango Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 yes they look like they are the ones http://i.imgur.com/GSgAn2g.jpgLooks like the same calipers that are used on the earlier Triumph Street Triple and the Honda CB750 F2N....... I bought 2 secondhand Street Triple calipers in excellent condition for £40....... Quote
Tango Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Shiny, shiny...... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-STREET-TRIPLE-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPERS-2007-2012-T2020375-T2020376-/252035519628?hash=item3aae7cd48c:g:wQIAAOSwMmBVsN03" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Having just gone through a right pain with my Triumph ones, that seems a VERY good option! Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 The previous owner (bro in law) says he had the seals replaced just over a year ago. If I clean them will I need to replace them in that instance?wow nice price on those...hum those triumph ones are probably in much better nick than my 1998 brakes? hum....my bike is black and gold so would suit. Stu Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 What is the actual problem with your brakes? Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Front brakes binding. Have just spoke to him again and now he's not sure. Thinks it might actually have been the back his friend did for him. Which would make more sense as it's fine. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Now if he'd just kept a log of what he's had done would make it so much easier Quote
Lumor_uk Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 The brakes gave up end of last summer (didn't service them when I said I would) haven't ridden it since, but just tackled them couple of days ago. The seals were £9 and have made a huge improvement. What a bloody mess of a job. The pistons have slight pitting at the ends where they've been exposed to the elements and will probably reduce the life of the seals. A few questions; Are pistons standard across brake manufacturers, are there after market replacements, are they inferior, I saw some for £100 titanium, seems a bit steep. Will probably do in 2 years when the brake fluid needs replacing again. Quote
