RantMachine Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Like this, if you aren't sure what Joe means - the washer should have little 'teeth' that engage with corresponding teeth on the output shaft, preventing the washer from rotating separately from the shaft.http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/attachments/zzr-600/228233d1389988570-2007-zzr-600-front-sprocket-20131230_170823.jpg Quote
JRH Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Post up a picture just with the cog and washer fitted not the nut then we can see how it is going together Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Yes the washer is in place correctly with the teeth slotted in place. It just seems the washer thickness prevents the full thread of the nut being used. Quote
RantMachine Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 *disclaimer: RantMachine don't know shit*Well, if the washer is engaged with the splines, the nut is properly torqued, and at least one side of the washer is folded over the nut nice and snug, I can't see it being a problem! *disclaimer: RantMachine don't know shit* Quote

My worry was the amount of thread still unused on the nut Quote
Joeman Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Doesnt look great...But probably get away with it or save 50quid and ride it back to the dealer for them to fix! Quote
RantMachine Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Or just cover it in loctite and duct tape Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 So another attempt. Seems I can use the washer and have a poorly threaded nut or no washer and a flush threaded nut. Can't have both. Maybe the sprocket is wider than usual. All a pain. Going to have to let garage take it as I'm not confident with it. Quote
Stu Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 once you tighten that up and bend the tabs on the washer over that nut should not come off How many threads are showing on the spindle? Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 The threads on the spindle are not showing at all. Its the thread in the nut that I can see Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Ha ha will check and let you know Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 5 threads on spindle Quote
Stu Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 so 4 with the washer you are worrying way too much Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Thats 5 with washer. So should be ok?? Quote
Stu Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 more than good enough you have to think thats the way it came from the factory and most come like that so it will be more than enough Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Not sureif these pics are working buthttp://s800.photobucket.com/user/martash2009/media/IMG_20161012_174015673.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0That's how it looks. Washer goes over the teeth and fits flush, then the nut goes over the 5 threads. Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Nut and washer now on and going for short test ride. Any tips to bending the tabs over?? It's just kind of sat there at the moment with no real purpose.Wish me luck Quote
Guest Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 I use slip jointed pipe pliers, pulls it up neatly against the flats Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 I use slip jointed pipe pliers, pulls it up neatly against the flats I've actually got some of those. Wish I had tried them first I have made a bit of a mess of the washer tabs with a screwdriver Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 12, 2016 Author Posted October 12, 2016 Went out for a few miles very close to home (didn't fancy a long push home ) took it steady didn't go above 40mph. Very paranoid about any noise and have zero confidence in bike, well maybe 5% now.Got home and took the cover off and the nut is still as tight as when I left although I think I need to invest in a torque wrench. I'm probably going to give it a run out at the weekend. I'm not taking it to work tomorrow or Friday. Am also going to buy a spare nut and washer and keep it under seat. Will probably check the nut every day now for a while. Despite all this it felt great to be on the bike again!! Thanks all for your help. I do hope that is my problem sorted now. Quote
Tango Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 If one of the washer tabs is bent up against one of the flats on the nut it ain't going nowhere....... Quote
RantMachine Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Sounds like you've done a sound job! Deep breath, relax, and enjoy the bike... shouldn't be any need to worry I use slip jointed pipe pliersSo that's what those are called! Yeah, I use them for mine too Quote
Stu Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 So that's what those are called! Yeah, I use them for mine too Or water pump pliers Quote
Foxy Stoat seeks Pig Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 i had to google them first before i realised what they were. Took the car to work today, then quickly remembered how much my short commute sucks in a car. So much slow moving traffic gettin in my way Quote
