hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Hi,This is really frustrating, the bike was working ok and would start on both the electric start and the kick, Having replaced the tank and fitted a new fuel line it will kick over but not start. It has been sitting for quite a while so I've cleaned the carb and the jets, the fuel is definitely getting to the carb, I've also cleaned the spark plug and checked there is no corrosion on the earth terminal. The solenoid was making a horrendous machine-gun like clicking but I put this down to not enough juice in the battery. After a recharge the clicking has gone and it turns over but doesn't run. I also tried a bump start, engine sounds very bassy and dies as the bike loses momentum, never really starting. In desperation I've also pulled the air filter. Can anyone think of something I may have missed? Quote
JRH Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Have you checked that there is a spark at the plug? Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 I have tried that but think I might be doing it wrong, pulled the plug but didn't connect it anything metal on the engine, no spark which led me to think it might be the earth. I'll try it tonight but my gut instinct is there's no spark, maybe a loose connection on the CDI or possiby an issue with the shutoff switch connection? Quote
TimR Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Does it attemp to start ... youve not trapped fuel line on tank removal/replace ?Turned fuel tap on ?Best thing to do is go backwards in your exploitsTake tank off look for detached leads Check the plug that possibly plugs into the solenoid isn't corroded on contacts .Check fuses Quote

Need to touch the body of the plug to a good earth like when it is in the engine. Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 There's definitely fuel getting to the carb as I fitted clear fuel lines and can see it flowing freely through the fuel filter.Possibly is a plug somewhere, the connectors on the solenoid do look rusty but it turns over so I'm guessing the starter is getting enough juice. ThePhatomfart Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Got here a bit late, what bike exactly are we talking about? Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 A small one from a foreign country that doesn't have a great reputation when it comes to bikes.Kinroad XT50 QT2 Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 A bikes a bike at the end of the day, is it the 50cc 139QMB engine that you got? Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 That's the one, modelled on the Honda C50I say Kinroad but it's more of a Kin-uki-umph-lera Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Have you got the engine manual for it Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 Just checked it's the 139fmb not the 139qmb Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 I have the users manual but it's very much, "you turn on, you ride, you have happy life" Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 4 Stroke, straight gears Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Here it is same engine they stuck it in an American one as well.https://www.dropbox.com/s/s87zwjybipj50l6/madass-50-repair.pdf?dl=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 has it got a kill switch on the throttle side of the switch gear that has been knocked to shut it off? Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Checked that and cleaned the connectors inside the switch housing just in case. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 so when you put the spark plug against the engine and turn the engine over does the plug spark have you checked the connection where the plug lead goes into the plug cap Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Just tested it and yes I have a spark.Makes no sense to me, I have fuel, air, compression and a spark. The battery is charged and the stand is up (that one caught me out in the past) and the shut off is not on, all lights are off ad it's definitely in neutral. It did start, almost, again very bassy and it turned over of its own accord for a couple of seconds then died as if it's being starved of something?? goodness only knows what. Stu Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 You have established fuel is getting to the carbs but is it getting to the cylinder? Could be blocked jets Quote
Tango Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Is the plug wet when you take it out?.....If it's not, then it's likely that as Stu says, you've got a blocked jet.......or the float is stuck..... Quote
hardleydavidson Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 Plugs are wet.Beginning to think there may be an issue with shutoff connection or an earthing issue.Have ordered a carb rebuild kit just in case but that won't be here for another month Quote
Chrissb6 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Hi, you say it's very bassy when you try to start it, you have a spark and you have fuel with a wet plug. I would then suggest you do a compression test that Basie noise might be a blown head gasket, piston ring or the valves might need attention, also check the exhaust system for air leaks and for oil in the exhaust pipe to.
