Hi, has anybody on here tried varia focal contact lenses. I've just had my eyes tested and now been told lm in need of glasses for both distance and reading " Age thing". It's just been pointed out to me that you can now get varia focal contact lenses which sounds like a great idea save me trying to fit glasses inside a helmet. Any info - feedback would be most welcome.

Apparently you need to be check for suitability, I'm booked in at the weekend will let you know how l get on.

They also do what's called mono vision where you have one eye set up for distance and the other for reading, sounds strange but lm assured this works. Beats the hell out of trying to fit glasses into a helmet if it works

I tried them having worn contacts for years, then going back to glasses and then getting to the age when vari-focals were necessary.

They didn't work for me - after a month I gave up on them because working on a computer or doing paperwork just didn't work. For driving and riding they were fine but no good for when I was at work and there was no way I was taking lenses in and out several times a day.

So I'm back on my glasses and a full flip helmet. But it is a very individual thing, they may well work fine for you.

(Actually I prefer wearing glasses when riding as when I used to wear contacts riding with the visor open even a crack was lethal. I always ended up with grit under a lens and that's painful. I had a few nasty moments at speed when something got in my eye and I had to pull over. With glasses it's much safer and with the right helmet not a problem.)

It just riding and karate I want them for, I work without wearing my glasses and just shift the monitor into focus

If I can see road signs and my speed I'll be a happy chap.

I know a few people who wear contact len varifocals and they love them.

I do wear contact lenses occasionally (I only need glasses for concentration really) however mine are RGP lenses (hard plastic). They take much longer to get used to but provide excellent clarity. However, I don't particularly like riding in them due to the fact they can get stuck in the corner of my eye when doing shoulder checks.

I will have to keep an "eye" on this thread. I have varifocal glasses but my contacts are single and if I use them for the bike cant see the SatNav too well so tend to wear glasses.
