Guest Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Have tried researching padlocks a bit, but the info is baffling. Loads of stuff like key sizes, pins, alloy vs carbide etc. Anyway is there any you can recommend? I will be using it along with a big chain when I get my new motorcycle. Looking at about the £50 mark. Quote
Bender Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Your best bet is something that will defeat bolt cutters with both the chain and the padlock, anything else will not stand upto a grinder with a cutting disk. Quote
Arwen Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I'd buy another squire lock in a heartbeat if I needed another.Mine has stood up to the abuse of being dragged around, left out in the cold and wet and never failed me. More information here - https://securityforbikes.com/padlocks.phpEdit: I have the Squire SS50CS . which I got with a chain from them. Its £55, but just make sure the links of the chain you want to use with it fit through it. Quote

Yeldur Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 My bike is relatively cheap so I don't use the highest security in the world, just enough to make people go "ah f**k it too much effort for cheap shit"That being said, I don't use amazingly trash stuff to secure my bike:https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/55957https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/55990Have used both for little over a year now, the disc lock began to run out of battery and was making a constant annoying noise so much so that I can't use it as I've lost my alan key for it (I have some more now and will attempt to get it open now lol)but they're both fantastic at what they do, the disc lock is very sensitive so it will go off relatively quickly, in rain you should leave the alarm off Never had anyone attempt to steal my 125 so I don't really have a lot of experience on that side of things, but both seem sturdy enough, at the end of the day, the purpose of a lock is to slow them down, if they really want it they'll get it, but you can make it a lot more difficult for em lol. Throttled Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Go for something that is rated by Thatcham or your insurer lists as suitable. That is a good indication it will be at least OK. Quote
Wattsie Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Almax 3 chain, and squire padlock. Almax can’t be cropped. Best chain / lock combo on the market. Only draw backs are that they’re expensive, and the chains are very heavy... Great product though. Quote
