Have a look at http://www.gearingcommander.com to figure what your new ratio will give you.

You're only really constrained by what will physically fit on your bike.

Down gearing a small capacity bike is well worth doing as it'll make top gear useful rather than a speed losing thing.

This is exactly what I have found with 125s. I dropped one tooth on my front cog and it brought the engine rpm in top gear into a useable range. Whilst in theory the overall top speed will drop that would only apply going downhill with the wind behind you after eating 4 cans of baked beans. In reality - on the flat and with any kind of moderate gradient or headwind it will help you keep in top gear so you actually go faster. It also brought the gears into a much nicer place for round town riding as well.

Agreed,

I know my bike is a completely different beast to a 125 but my stock is 17/40 and I run 16/42

which really makes it "Come Alive" + you wont notice a big drop in MPG

In Theory A 125 should become more responsive and should be able to hold higher speed and get there a little faster

Just dont expect it to act like a 200cc

JT Sprockets are industry standard and high quality

Nice one lads , put the 16 on today with the stock rear , can feel a whole lot of difference if you ask me . Pulling off speed jas incressed , need to get the rear on now ,

Plus its no beaste but its got a 150head bore kit , pulls away from most 125's about ...

Nothing to my Aprilia pegaso 650 Project ...
