Liveware Problem Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Hi!I'm trying to fit a fork stem attachment to my bike (triumph TT600) for the purpose of holding a Sat nav,I removed the steering head nut (if that's what it's called?) and fitted the mount: However I realise the nut needs to be replaced with one without a cap on, wondering what would be suitable - something like this?https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/HIGH-TENSILE-SELF-COLOUR-BLACK-METRIC-HEXAGONAL-HEX-STEEL-FULL-NUTS-CLASS-10/122261968385?hash=item1c77619601:m:mh6tFrMJP4jhQlgYLOMvfZQOr if not then what would be appropriate? Thanks in advance Quote
oldgrump Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Hi, the nut will be a fine thread, so probably not from that store, you could if you knew someone with lathe just machine chrome cap off, or look online at pro-bolt, think they do top nuts. Quote

You could finger tighten it and then gently tap it round with a hardwood drift to avoid damage or use a small C spanner. If it we're me I'd go for the previous suggestion to machine the cap off the old one. Quote

oldgrump Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Hi, just looked at triumph parts list but no thread size on there, to find the pitch size of thread you need a in-expensive little tool, local hardware shop might stock it or they come in a Tap & Die kit. And you just line it up with thread so gauge fits thread you are measuring and read what's marked on side. Normally about a 1m/m thread, but don't take my word for it. here's a couple pictures of gauge.. Quote
