VulcanRay Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 I,m going to be riding on Longhill in the afternoon this coming Saturday and have some lunch at the new mobile cafe on the layby at the whaley bridge end.For those who don,t know the road, Longhill is A5004 that runs between Whaley Bridge and Buxton.Anyone up for it? We could meet up on the layby around 2 pm if anyone fancies it.I don,t plan to go any where else from there. I normally just stay on Longhill till I get tired. Quote
Beansie Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Got my bike getting serviced at hunts in the morning but if I get it back in time I’d be up for meeting up it’s not too far from me Quote
VulcanRay Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 Thats great Beansie I,ll see you up there if you could make it. Quote
Baldrick Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 So you're just going backwards and forwards over longhill? There are some fantastic roads around that area, seems a bit boring doing the same one over and over again.Get yourself down the A515 to Newhaven then take the Via Gelia (A5012) to Matlock, well worth an afternoon ride. VulcanRay Posted June 27, 2018 Author Posted June 27, 2018 I,ve riden on all derbyshire roads mate but I think they,re all wasteful in terms of spending fuel. But in terms of touring they,re great and enjoyable.I ride on longhill because of all the lovely corners and its safe because I know the road really well.I like riding at Oulton park too and I,ll never get bored with that track. For the same reason riding back and forth on Longhill never bores me either. I know that kind of riding is not everyone,s cup of tea but it suits me really well. When I get bored I try cat and fiddle too to break the boredom. Quote
mikestrivens Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 ...its safe because I know the road really well.... That doesn't account for the other road users who may not know the road as well and take a bend too wide and you are toast. Quote
Stu Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 ...its safe because I know the road really well.... That doesn't account for the other road users who may not know the road as well and take a bend too wide and you are toast. But that can happen regardless of how you ride and no matter how good a rider you are! I have seen it happen! What's the point in preaching to people how they ride it wont change them! Just concentrate on your own riding and leave others to it! Just like I do Quote
VulcanRay Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 If anyone is too concerned about what other road users might do to them they should never go out on normal roads and ride. Even on a track no matter how good you are and how well you know the track someone else at some point may take you out.I,m really surprised to see someone who thinks that way to be riding at all. That is quite strange. Quote
mikestrivens Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 There are bold riders and there are old riders. But there are never old bold riders. Quote
VulcanRay Posted June 29, 2018 Author Posted June 29, 2018 The old platitudes are the best Old or bold, I,ll not be riding this weekend cos of work. Gotta be working in this glorious weather now. Quote
