security options for a bike with no storage

I have an er6f which has next to no underseat storage. When looking at security options for running errands, going to the gym etc should I go with two disclocks or one disclock and one small chain that I can fit under the seat? What about a shackle lock? I don't want to have to carry a big lock in my backpack and I don't have any other luggage on the bike.

You could bungee a large U lock and chain to the pillion seat.

At best you are deterring casual theft when parking outside and you do not have space to carry a robust chain.

You should also consider the visual deterrent of datatag on the bike. A more "professional" thief will realise the bike will be harder to sell on, as a whole or as parts if the bike is security tagged.

Have you (or anyone) actually used the above locks? As per my other thread, my tracer was stolen from work, they cut through the oxford boss D lock in seconds. I've ordered a Mt-09, but obviously I'm looking to ramp up the security. The datatool and roadlok look really good. The dealer has also thrown in a oxford boss D lock (£80) with 100db alarm, so I'm thinking the 3 of those should do the trick?

But they will do the job for most locations. We don't all ride into Central London and need half a dozen locks on each wheel.

I've just got an Oxford Boss D/L and an Oxford GP chain - more than has been declared on my insurance and plenty for the quiet area I live in or others I travel to.

Datatag security marking is a good deterrence for the type of thief who is looking to steal bikes to sell on or strip for parts.

The general principle is to make your bike harder to steal that then ones nearby. If there are no other bikes nearby, park somewhere that is more public.

Thanks for the input. I've gone with an alarmed disc lock and an Oxford HD lock and chain. I'll keep the chain in my backpack which will be cargo netted to my bike. I'll get the datatag kit as well.

I recommend that you consider some extra luggage to carry your bits like locks on the bike.

I opted for the Frank Thomas FT13 leather saddlebags from J&S. They look old school and very Gucci. Style and retro in abundance for less than 80 notes.

Very useful for bringing shopping home too.
