elizabethf Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Hardcore noob question here! I bought a pair of textile trousers with knee and hip inserts inside. Im 5'3 and at least these aren't too long/ the knee inserts sit in the right place... but the hip inserts are a nightmare. I can get the trousers on and off fine with them, but i cant lift my legs, lean forward etc.I alrady have to do a bit of a karate kick and a jump to get my leg over most bikes, these inserts will make it impossible. I have removed them, and I have all my hip functions back. However Id rather have something in there to protect my hips... Should I buy smaller inserts (if that exists?) or maybe cut down the ones that come with it (they are second hand anyway)? If this a problem anyone else has run into? Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Google revit hip protectors. They are slimline and flexible. Obviously the CE rating is lower than something like D30 but its better than nothing. Quote
fullscreenaging Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Put them back in and when getting on and off your bike use your footrest to give you a boost up. Don’t worry, your side stand will take it. Quote
elizabethf Posted July 14, 2018 Author Posted July 14, 2018 Thanks both I’ll try the stand thing and if not look at some different inserts.I did find that after stretching around in the trousers they gave a little a moulders to me a bit better so hopefully if I do a bit more casual walking etc in them I can put the inserts back in and it won’t be an issue! mikestrivens Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 Maybe go for the next size up would be more flexible - if bought from a shop . Quote
Throttled Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 I have trimmed armour inserts so they fit better. What are the inserts you have made from? Quote
elizabethf Posted July 15, 2018 Author Posted July 15, 2018 Maybe go for the next size up would be more flexible - if bought from a shop . They were second hand, the waist is already too big to accommodate my bum lol (Ive sized up in all my bike gear just in case and for comfort). I have trimmed armour inserts so they fit better. What are the inserts you have made from? They are fairly thin foam. Quote
Throttled Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Either trim the foam or go and find trousers that fit. J&S do ladies kit, as do many other places. Quote
Arwen Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Hip inserts do restrict movement... It is just the way of them. Regardless of sizing up or not. I've just ordered a pair of knox micro lock hip inserts to replace my semi-ridgid ones. The micro lock ones seem to be ultra flexible, so I'll let you know they work out. Should arrived next week at some point. Quote
Tango Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Dunno if these would fit your trousers, or be any better? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rukka-D3O-Air-Hip-Armour-Protectors-For-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Trousers/151978564479?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D52543%26meid%3Def0f5b72befd47e1b40403eabcd9b7c4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D172493265632%26itm%3D151978564479&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Quote
elizabethf Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 I’ve popped them up for sale and ordered oxford Kevlar leggings in petite instead! I feel this will save the hassle! Quote
