Guest Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Well,Had an "interesting" experience with the above item of kit......Went into town last Friday to run a few errands.....left bike in dedicated bike park and deftly applied said OBL. Imagine my delight, on returning to the bike, when I attempted to remove the lock. The (crappy) semi-circular section key would not fully enter the keyway, and (obviously, I hope) the lock would not open again . The lock was well and truly jammed shut. The key was not damaged, there was no shite in the keyway - the key would just not go in. I had visions of having to get the RAC out to cut the lock off (but would they, I wonder?)......but after about 20 minutes of jiggling the key in the lock, it pushed home and I was able to take the lock off the wheel. Tried putting the lock back together (yes, it was off the bike, silly...) - it locked OK and then bloody jammed again. Looking on the bright side, it only took 5 minutes this time to open it again. I AM NOT REASSURED BY ALL THIS. Yes, I know, it's not top-of-the-range, but it also ain't cheap. Has anybody else run into this problem? I won't use it again in case I do get irrevocably stuck. What do you all think? Quote

What do you all think? They have a reputation for being a decentish lock so send it back ask for a refund and see if they’re a decentish company! Quote
Bender Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Not with that one I have an oxford screamer, its crap, on 2nd one now not impressed. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 I looked at that one but went for the Oxford XA14 alarmed lock which so far has been spot on. Does the lock need some lubrication in it? Don't use WD40 which will actually dry the lock of lubrication. You want some graphite in there - literally shavings off a pencil or (as I use) a graphite based oil. It is black so you only use a dab or the key will stain anything it touches. The semi-circular type of key/barrel is prone to jamming in my experience - no idea why but a few things I've had which use that system seem to jam more than anything else. The XA14 has a different key/barrel which is very positive in action. Quote
learningtofly Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Ive just bought one, so I hope it’s not a common problem. Sportsbikeshop also have about £65 quid off the ABUS Victory X-Plus 68 & chain, by the way. Good reviews and without the chain it seems very portable. Quote
David Ian Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Also have Oxford boss alarm disk lock. main shackle has rusted also rust in the actual body where it locks to the shackle. Batteries rusted and key won’t unlock. Taken it all apart and cleaned dried it all wiped out the rust residue put in new batteries tested on the bench all ok, put it on bike but only on the rack just in case it doesn’t unlock so easy to remove. Following morning even though bike was covered with Oxford stormex cover lock was full of water and alarm did not work finally got the lock undone whole thing full of water only just 14 months old and utterly useless and ta total waste of £100. Contacted Oxford who offered to replace the alarm module for £25 not the lock body just the battery tray! Won’t be using Oxford products again soon 1 Quote
Fleck Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I've had many alarmed disc locks. Oxford are one of the worst brands, the small Xena one is OK, the big Bluetooth one is useless and lasted about 3 months... But the best so far is... Still working and on it's original battery! 1 2 Quote
Tinkicker Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Another disappointed Oxford Boss Alarmed Disc Lock here. After 12 months of being sat on the bike in a dry shed, the alarm unit failed. New batteries did nothing. A quick look on google showed it was a common problem. Had no trouble with the lock itself mind you. 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 31 Posted March 31 People seem to have very mixed experiences with Oxford products. I've been lucky with their stuff. The most waterproof jacket I've ever had was a £25 Oxford ja kettle from J&S. My Oxford disc alarm, mentioned above in September 2018 is still working fine. Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I have a couple of their rechargeable alarmed disc locks. They've been fine for 2-3 years. Quote
