elizabethf Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 I dont have much knowledge on the technical side of bikes, but having had a 125 and riding a 650.... aren't all 125s generally a little slow to pull off?? Quote
norm Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 this as only happened recently it was fine till thenits dangerously slow like at roundabouts trying to pull awayits as tho it wants to cut out Quote
Stu Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 does it rev high but take ages to get going? Quote
Stu Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 they have a type of clutch system that basically grips as you start the engine spinning faster....it will more than likely be this thats not working right there is different types of system so you will have to check out which one you have have a google for a centrifugal clutch its a similar sort of system to what these bikes use Quote
norm Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 thanks for that will have a look at thatcheers Quote
Old-codger Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 It could also be the rollers in the transmission system have worn so they wont roll when you accelerate but slide and stick. They are easy to replace and you can get different weight rollers to alter the way the bike accelerates. Here is an example of what im on about https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexmoto-FMX-125-14-0g-Heavy-Duty-Variator-Rollers/273283274445?epid=2075089434&hash=item3fa0f3d6cd:g:sIUAAOSwLq5bHlD9:rk:1:pf:0Have a google of automatic transmissions on scooters to get an understanding on how they work. If you look at the previous picture you'll see that it doesn't have rollers , it has a centrifugal clutch. Quote
Old-codger Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 What they have is a centrifugal clutch at one end of the drive belt then a variable pully at the other end. at tick over the clutch is disengaged but as the revs rise it engages and at the same time as speed increases the rollers in the pully are forced outwards on ramps to alter the gearing allowing the belt down into the centre of the pully so it gives you variable seamless gearing. You can alter the take up and acceleration by changing the weight of the rollers. What happens is the rollers get a flat side so they tend to stick or slide instead of rolling in the ramp channel. It could be rollers or drive belt worn out or clutch worn hard to tell with out riding it. Quote

Thanks for that sir , you are quite correct. Quote
