lost0witness Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 Hello one and all!- Well, I didn't think i'd be doing this very soon, I sadly have an issue with my bike! As some of you may know, I'm new to the bike scene and have no idea how to explain this issue I'm having!Here is my own Youtube link with my own bike which pretty much details the issues I'm having! mikestrivens Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 In that case I’d be inclined to give the chain a very thorough clean and lube to see if the links free up. If not then it might be worth getting a new chain. Also check sprockets for wear and consider replacement as well. Loads of videos on YouTube for doing these jobs. Quote
lost0witness Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 [mention]mikestrivens[/mention] - Ah right okay, well I've done the chain clean - chain lube routine and it didn't help sadly (used 500ml cans of each for the job - just to be sure!)- But you may actually be right - I've looked on flea-bay for a new chain, and getting prices from £9.99 to £35.Now I'm a man of quality over.. quantity in this case, so I'd rather buy the £35. But - is there any difference in this area? What makes / brands are good / bad / avoid at all costs?- Andy. Quote

lost0witness Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 [mention]mikestrivens[/mention] - Yeah, I would go to a dealer but for where I live (Chelmsford, ESSEX) It would seem that there's no dealers near me (i could be wrong) - the only company who are "Yamaha approved" - I've been told by numerous people to avoid at all costs - even when people told me to avoid them I went to them to just buy some gloves - and almost walked away with bike finance for a £4.5k bike which I didnt ask for or need.. so not the sort of company I want to deal with haha.many thanks for your help, greatly appreciated! - Andy. I think you probably have an unevenly worn chain that has been tightened up to eliminate slack . Does the bike actually have an issue during everyday riding , or does it just concern you when you run it in gear on the stand like in the video ? Hard to tell but the chain does look very tight. I certainly didn't see any sag . The front sprocket doesn't look too bad but it certainly isn't new . Perhaps the chain is newer than the sprocket and not sitting properly on the teeth . I shall do that actually tomorrow morning![mention]fastbob[/mention] - Yeah quite possibly, and yeah the problem begins from 3rd gear onwards while riding too! !I was worried the chain was looser than it should? But its hard to judge when I'm not experienced with bikes (yet).- But I've just brought a chain and socket set like suggested and see how that goes, I'm someone who is confident with home d-i-y on motors anyway, so shouldnt be too much an issue (hopefully)!And yeah, some links have slightly bigger angles than that image!- Andy.
