Breadsnapper Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Just been out on a ride, pulled up at a junction and bike stalled. Tried to restart her and the engine wouldn't fire up. Opens the choke and it starts up but as soon as I turn off the choke it dies. It was running perfectly up to the point it cut out any ideas. It's a 1998 Honda CBR 600 f3, 38k on the clock. Carbs were clean 409 miles ago but it was last year. Thanks Dave Quote
Stu Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Probably a blocked jet!Despite them being cleaned recently it sounds like a jet is blocked and not letting enough fuel through! Quote
Breadsnapper Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Cheers, left it an hour and now it is idling fine. Wondering if it was the heat, I dunno. Anyway booked in Saturday at the local motorcycle shop.ThanksDave Quote
Breadsnapper Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 Quick update and it is user error. Would appear that there was crap in the tank. When it was put on reserve it fired up fine as it only happened when I was low on fuel my mistake as I was still getting used to how much a 600 uses compared to a 125 lol.Anyway thanks for the repliesDave Quote
megawatt Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 People clear blocked jets without clearing the source of the crap . Always a good idea to drain tank , flush out with clean fuel and remove petrol tap to clean that and the tap inlet filter. Quote
fastbob Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Yep , clean and flush everything south of the fuel filter or its likely to happen again . Stick a big paper element filter inline if there's room . Quote
Breadsnapper Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Tanks been off and some crap in it, all flushed out and now clean. Air line through the pipes new filter fitted last week. The bike had been stood a while prior to me buying it so I don't think that helped. Anyway lesson learned thanks for all the advice.Dave Quote
