Jando00 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Hi, bought the bike about 2 weeks ago after taking my CBT, bike was perfectly fine apart from some cosmetic damage. Was riding round yesterday and came off going round a roundabout after slipping on some wet lines that are on the interior of the roundabout. Bike started fine, got it home and parked it up for the night. Went to check the damage this morning and started the bike to check if it worked. Throttle cable has come loose and is now moving when twisting the throttle. Turned the bike on and off a few times, was fine the first few times but the bike suddenly wouldnt start, when i pressed the ignition it made a clicking noise that came from the rear of the bike (at least sounded like it had) but wouldnt start or even try to turn over. The neutral and check engine light are both extremely dim. Tried to push start the bike but would not start at all, made a noise like it was trying to go but wouldnt. check engine light lit up then went off when i pulled the clutch back in. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Your battery is flat. The clicking noise is the solenoid. Quote
Jando00 Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Did check battery, forgot to include in the OP. Reading 12.3 volt. Quote
Discomfort Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 12.3 is a little low, Whats it read when you try and start it, at a guess its dropping below 10v Quote
Jando00 Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Havent tried to start it whilst checking the voltage. I'll try that in the morning. Quote
raesewell Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 If the voltage drops to 9.6 volts or less while trying to start the bike your battery is toast. Quote
Jando00 Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Cheers, i'll update the post tommorow after testing it Quote
stejack Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 sounds very battery related.check the levels in the battery in case it leaked when you took a spill also check the terminals make sure they havnt come loose Quote
Jando00 Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Had a look at the battery. Its fully charged. Starting to think its the fuse as the bike is completely dead. Quote
Jando00 Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 As far as i know theres no way to check the levels on the battery. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 A flat battery can still show 12+volts. Just because the voltage is showing as 12v doesn't mean it's holding any charge.Have you had the battery on charge? Quote
Jando00 Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Checked the battery again whilst trying to start the bike. Dips to around 5-6v. Going to have a look at buying a new battery tomorrow. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 Why not try charging it first? You need a charger anyway so worth trying that and if the battery takes a charge you're sorted. It's possibly only flat due to lack of use then repeated starts without going anywhere. Quote
Jando00 Posted March 1, 2020 Author Posted March 1, 2020 Dont actually know how to do charge it. Had the bike for around 2 weeks now and had no issues but it was rarely used by the previous owner Quote
