James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 The idle is too low and it drops out. I have not tried riding it yet. I have not tightened up the accelerator cable at the handlebar yet. Not sure if that affects the idling? When I rev it drops straight away. I have not run it for long but can. Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Needle is a little bouncy. I think I need to ride it to get it warm. Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 I’m starting to think I should take this to a garage for them to sort. I don’t have the diagnosis or solving skills and I have been without my bike for too long now. Quote
WD-40 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 There should be a separate idle speed adjuster. Have a look in your manual if you're not sure where it is. Start it up, get it warm and then set your idle speed with the adjuster. I think it should be around 1100 RPM on that bike. Hook up the rest of it and check for leaks and go for a short ride and see how it rides. Don't go too far though in case there's a problem. Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Unfortunately the manual says take it to a Kawasaki dealer because of emissions rules. I shall Google’s Quote
WD-40 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 Idle speed adjustment is on Page 2-7 on this manual https://www.dropbox.com/s/bu43di24gaiwcgi/Kawasaki%20ZX6%20ZZR600%2090-97.pdf Quote

I shall Google’s I think you're talking about idle mixture screws? Don't adjust them. It's the idle speed adjuster that you need to adjust if the idle speed is too low Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Hank’s WD-40 The manua was helpful. I have gotten it to a safe idle of 1100 ish while warm. Spotted some leaking out of the carb or hoses between carb. Got to do something else then going to take all the bits off and have a look. Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 So, to the leak. It seems to not be leaking further since being off for a while but whilst the engine was on here is where I see th leaks. Going to take off the gubbins and have a look.oh and my fuel valve thingy still drips despite having changed all of the parts and gasket. It drop through it even when off. No idea on that one. Quote
bud Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 There should be no fuel coming out in the off position. If you have replaced the o ring in the tap, check it's not pinched or split. Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Thanks Bud. I shall have to take it off and have a look.I have drops of fuel coming out of the carb drains plug thingy on two of the carbs. I have unscrewed them and put them back same thing. Whilst running not whilst off (after a few minutes) so I guess once the carb had drained. Any thoughts from lovely people? Quote

WD-40 Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 Is it definitely coming out the drain hole? Could be coming from higher up and collecting at the drain hole since that's the lowest point. Try running your finger around the bowl and feel if it's wet Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Not definitely. I’ve had to put it away for today. Taken tank off. Going to think whether I would rather have it off the toad for a few more weeks and fix it myself or take to a garage. And have it to ride sooner. On the one hand I am chuffed to have taken from totally not working to working and running but not fully fixed. I would like to finish the job. On the other hand I am tired, have very little spare time and I miss my bike Quote
TimR Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 Idle adjuster should be a black knurled kn9b on the end of a flexible shaft .It should thread into near where the throttle cables attach and ends near gear lever area May help https://www.sportbikes.net/threads/idle-adjustment-screw-newb.420239/Not checked but if yours the older (d series) then it may be a short rod out of the bottom of carb ( awkward hence why they made it longer ) Quote
James in Brum Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Thanks. Sorted the idle just the leak now Might have more look later but most likely not. Quote
