Hello,

I am also a new yamaha rider. I bought a 2009 ybr model last week. I rode it for the first time on Saturday and everything was great. When coming to use my bike this morning the bike started but then cut out after a minute or so.

I think this model has an automatic choke so wondering if there is anything obvious I can try to get it going?

When I bought it I saw that the speedometer light wasn't working so was going to look into that- do you think an electric fault could relate to the bike revs cutting out?

Was really looking forward to riding and also got a yamaha because they were known for reliability to get to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Zoe

A bit more information would help. When it cut out would it restart, and if not what happened when you tried to start it again?

2009 will be a fuel injection version and I believe the fuel pump tends to be rather temperamental on them.

It starts, the revs go to 2, then after about 5 seconds it goes down and cuts out.

If i try and rev it, it revs, can go as high as 6 but as soon as stop it cuts out. Also cuts out when try and put it into 1st, as release the clutch.

It worked fine on Saturday.

Maybe rain has caused an electrical fault? Some forums said it might be a sensor.

Thanks for your replies

Just had some friends who know have a look. They found that the air box and filter was full of oil...

They tried adjusting the idle screw but that didn't help either

Did you buy the bike from a dealer? If yes bring it back and let them sort it. Was the oil in the air box engine oil? If the engine oil is over filled it can get pushed up into the air box through the crankcase vent. Check if your oil level is high. If it's too high you might as well change the oil and put the correct amount in. If the air filter is saturated with oil it could explain the bike cutting out if it's not getting enough air flow through it. Get a new air filter and clean out the air box. If you bought it from a dealer let them do it
