gpz strange noise

Hi my GPZ 500S is making a sound like the exhaust is holed but I cannot find any holes. I tried to pull away a few days ago with the disk lock on(what an idiot) and bike ended up on its side but did not fall hard as I held onto it although the engine did rev high but I am not sure how high. The bike still starts fine and runs fine with good acceleration and the noise is less noticeable when revved over 6000 revs. any suggestions what could be wrong what to look for and what to test. Apart from the noise the bike is as it always has been.

easy to check the exhaust....

..start the bike and put your hand over the end if it has a hole/leak it will stay running if not it will stop after a few seconds :)

its hard to diagnose a noise without listening to it :?

Hi I have tried covering the exauhsts for about 10 seconds with no effect engine still running but I could not hear any gas escaping. I will try and record the sound tomorrow morning and post recording. On decelaration I have noticed it makes a popping sound which made me think it was the exhaust. I live in Stewarton just outside Kilmarnock.

if you've dropped it even lightly the noise could well be from your fairing.................the fairing mount is really quite delicate and a slight twist leads to noise at low revs.................believe me i know .......mine's sendin me freckin bonkers.............had a low speed off bout a month ago and sod has rattled ever since.............gunna have to have a new fairing bracket to cure it properly

could have also buggered yer baffles in the can.

try "tapping" the exhaust and listening for a bit of a rattle..

If somert does rattle, then its very likely one of the baffles has become dislodged, broken, etc...

hand over the exhaust should definately stop the bike tho :)

just remembered.. GPZ500S is twin exhaust.. you'll need to cover both :P

Not an expert, but popping on deceleration could be back fire?

I don't think exhausts can cause this though.

Please do NOT get worried, i could well be very very wrong.

if it is a baffle come away, then it COULD be this banging around in the exhaust when you come off.. again.. so hard without sound :/

If it is a baffle, I'd have thought you could bang the exhaust with the palm of your hand (when the engines off) and you'd be able to hear it rattling
