Hi everyone,

I have a 1 year old Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and recently have noticed some issues with it. I would normally take it directly back to the place I bought it but they have a terrible reputation for repairs (unfortunately it was the only RE dealer in my area).

Also I should add that I have no idea about motorbikes! Sorry if I don’t explain this very well.

The issue is loss of power. Not sudden, but a general loss of power. I have to shift gears way sooner than I normally do. From 1st to 6th is so short. I can't go above 3500 rpm as it feels and sounds like it's going to break. I felt it yesterday on the highway the most. The bike really struggles at just 50mph in 6th gear. Normally doing 50mph in 5th is no problem at all but it now sounds like I’m pushing it really hard. Mostly I ride in the city and rarely use 6th, but now I’m constantly having to use it. The best way to describe is that it’s as if I’m suddenly riding a 250cc bike. Apart from this problem it’s running totally fine.

I recently topped up the engine oil with synthetic oil, which I read was fine to do. I’ve checked the levels and everything seems fine.

I live in Germany and have a hard time with the language, so any help with this before I have the stress of taking it to a garage would be much appreciated!

Best,

JJ

Sorry to hear your having issues, I'm not sure what's going on with your bike I'm no expert. I did have a Himalayan, I love RE bikes however their aftersales as I've said before on here is not good. RE are almost impossible to get hold of and the UK importers MOTO GB just kept referring me back to the lacklustre dealer. There are some good dealers in the UK but were some distance from me. Might be worth long run if you can find a decent dealers in Germany somewhere or maybe a good independent locally who would look at it. The twins aren't that complex just a shame RE can't back up their products with decent support.

Hope you get it resolved easily enough 👍

Thanks Mike. It's a shame, because I love the bike. I'm surprised RE don't check their dealers more. This one has awful reviews, and rightly so as far as I can tell. And the nearest other dealer is very far away. But I think I'll take it somewhere else for my next service!

Yes rmi was the same as you liked the bike just some niggles they  could easily have sorted. I think it's the whole customer service thing RE need to sort. I'm sure a decent mechanic will sort your issues 👍

Hard to say from you description....I am wondering if the clutch is slipping....odd you say you use 6th gear now more than ever.....usualy if the engine is loosing a lot of power you would really struggle to use 6th.

Does it sound like the engine RPM is racing but the bike is going no faster????

The wrong engine oil can bugger a clutch leading to it slipping....was it motor cycle oil or general car engine oil?????

What part of the country are you.

I just came across this, so not sure if my advice is of any use, but that sounds exacly like the bike is in limp mode, with the ECU limiting power to protect the engine. This happened to my Interceptot when the speedo cable failed, and then the regulator-rectifier -- both reeplaced under warranty.

Are there no warning lights showing? Even if not, you could take a look using an ecu fault reader. Here's where I got mine: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284045492532.
