Right. So I have a Mini Cooper 2012 model. So 10 years old. And the washer aren’t right. It isn’t the nozzles on the windscreen. It is the sediment in the washer bottle. I know that because there is q break in the tubing. And if I blow into it then it works ok for a bit. BMW fix is to remove the washer bottle. I’m wondering if there is an easier fix to dissolve the stuff. I’m thinking of putting a bottle of white spirit through. Is that a bad idea?

I am not sure white spirit would be kind to any seals in the system.

If you think it is probably limescale or similar you may like to try a tip we used to use for tea pots and mugs we used to use on the railways when things got scaled up over long periods between proper washes.

Steradent ! The stuff for false teeth.

Cheers

What have you been putting into the washer bottle? If you have been using anything other than specific washer fluid then from past experience I'd go down the route of cleaning the reservoir.

You may be able to siphon water out of the reservoir which will be easier than removing it, you can flush out a lot of crap that way.

I doubt white spirit will do any good as the sediment is water soluble rather than spirit based. Plus it will probably wreck the impeller on the pump.

Yes I agree really with above comments. I’ve only ever put proper screen wash in the bottle. But the car has been left standing for a while and I think it has settled in the bottom of the bottle. I have pumped the contents out of the washer bottle and flushed warm water through. Done this a couple of times and everything seems to work ok for a bit. But then problem reappears. … I will probably have to remove the washer bottle and the pump to clean them out. But I was just thinking there might be a simple way of dissolving the gunge
