I researched it 10 years ago. You of course need the financial backing to make it happen, my in laws would of made it happen. Sadly self employed are why the arrangements are so strict for the rest of it. Even then you don’t need to look hard to find the ways WAYS to avoid. Then I don’t do overtime, unless I have to as by the time the taxman and CMS have finished I’d see less than half of it. I was self employed and it didn't deter them one bit, I didn't try to hide anything though, by their calculations I had to pay way less which was great for me, she wasn't impressed when money went down 1 Quote
Mike79 Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Update on this: we can now gain access to the bike but he is refusing to hand over the keys. Am I right in guessing I can use VIN number and/or ignition cylinder code to get a new key cut? It’s a CBR600. Anyone know how much Honda will charge for a key? Is that the best route to go? Quote
Bender Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 Probably, better to have a bike with no keys than no bike. Honda should give keys if you can prove ownership 1 Quote

They are just being difficult, I've experienced this type of thing. Just keep cool, take the bike. Treat this situation as being one small step at a time. It sounds like you're a good way through anyway. After you have the bike, wait a few days, keep 0 contact or if he's messaging, keep it friendly as they can. And a few days later, offer to make a deal, say "The cost of a new key and ignition barrel is less than what you owe me for the finance, but I will make a deal. Give me the key and I won't chase for the finance payments, or look into taking it further, and we can end it with this deal". The problem will be, does the guy care more about keeping a bit of control over his ex than being financially let off? Him holding onto the key but no bike lets him continue the situation. Just make sure reactions are kept subdued. Apply pressure through mutual friends if there are any who will say "come on dude, just end this". You want them to feel they walked away the bigger man, even if they aren't... 2 Quote
Tinkicker Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Very simple. Finance in girls name. V5 in girls name. Dickhead is guilty of TWOC if he does not have written and signed proof that it was a present. If he refuses to hand over keys and let the title owner take posession, then it becomes theft as he is showing intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property. As for keeping the keys. Easy for him to take possession of it again. It needs to be hid where he cannot find it. Quote
Pie man Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 It is possible to have a key made or the ignition is picked and once at P2 it can be removed from the housing, the tumblers rearranged and a new key cut, the only problem is, is it chipped with HISS, at least his key wont fit, If you get the keys back, its then very easy to revert the ignition barrel back to original key.
