Mickly Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 I’m having a go at rattle can painting a motor cycle tank, I have got it prepped & a couple of coats of etch primer flatted down. Next up is the base coat ( when it warms up a bit ) I am going to procure some vinyl decals & will make sure they are the type that can be lacquered over … The question is: Do I apply the decals to the base coat & then lacquer over or lacquer then apply decals & lacquer again? Thanks Quote
husoi Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 (edited) Paint, decals and clear Needless to say that you need proper quality materials including the base, clear can damage paint if not automotive quality Edited March 25, 2024 by husoi Quote

I’ve got quality ( AKA expensive ) base paint and lacquer. I went to a respected paint supplier with the base colour code I wanted & used their advice about the most suitable petrol resistant lacquer I could get without going to 2 pack. Quote
husoi Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 (edited) I really like this guy's work. In here he explains how to apply the paint and he always uses the same trick to add the decals. He uses soapy water so he can adjust the decals and then uses heat to dry the water. https://youtu.be/ZA1gVMtxWuE?si=8tCQSYKZ-YgIudHr Edited March 25, 2024 by husoi 1 Quote
