T25SS short?

Hi All

Dragged the bike out of the garage after six years. Battery was shot so put a new one on and have a problem with it in that turn ignition on and ignition light will stay of for maybe 10 seconds and then fade out.

Put the multi meter on the back of the ignition switch and had 12.5v for maybe 10 seconds and then it died - same story with the regulator. Is this likely to be a short or is it the regulator? either way i`m not that good with electrics and this bikes had a lot of messing about over the years with wrong colour coded wires being replaced so not looking forward to working on this one.

Thanks

Piers

I trust you are saying the light fades out, but the battery voltage is still good?  If battery volts drop, it may be a bad battery.

If the former, it sounds like a corroded connector.  A connector with high resistance due to corrosion will heat up and make the resistance even higher until it will no longer pass enough amps to work whatever it is supplying.

You need to look for corroded connectors and bad ground connections before anything else.  Start with the battery connections and go from there.
