I'm Sorry, But Can-Am's New Electric Motorcycle Doesn't Have Enough Range

Watch the review by Ryan Fortnine and see what they have got right in the drive chain and what it implies for off road machinery going forward before you condemn it too harshly.

Yes mate You tube and whilst he gave the road bike a right slagging the off road machine has a hidden gem in the engineering.

As much as it seems traditional riders hate this electric idea, me being fresh to the scene really doesn't mind the idea.

AND upon reflection the electric crosser I nearly bought has a lesser range so I'll retract my initial shit slinging 😂

When you watch it think about the distance between your drive sprocket and the pivot point of the swingarm.

For years many manufacturers and specialist race and custom builders have tried to make that gap as small as possible for the reasons he mentions.

OK watched it. Ye I agree with you about the change is drive system being very interesting. As it happens can am's latest top end petrol buggy has some very weird front suspension knuckles that initially got loads of piss taking but have proven to put their buggy is a whole new world compared to the traditional design. They also make a 325bph jetski so they are definitely a company with some sizable bollox.

I'll elaborate on my initial review now 😂

That's shite range for a vehicle of that nature. For a recreational toy it's plenty and I'm sure would be a blast.

The appeal for me of electric off road bikes is the stealth riding approach. Unfortunately in the UK off road riding is limited for many without some Karen ringing the police at the first sound of a petrol engine. Not that I condone blasting around recklessly but I can think of many woods where I could ride my road legal surron etc, have a 45 min wizz up and down some fun features before heading home to drown some puppies (an activity I'm sure Karen's think any off road rider partakes in). Maintenance is as close to zero as any machine can be and as much as I love the smell of 2 stroke, they can be ridden without coming home stinking of motorbike.

I will almost certainly (upon buying a house with a triple garage) be buying a 2 stoke, a 4 stroke AND electric crosser / enduro kinda bike.

I'm too old school for electric to ever replace petrol completely. No Jetsons mobile will ever be a substitute for a bike fuelled by dinosaur juice.

I'm sure my son, currently 3 will live his adult life (if left to his own accord) fully electric. Luckily he has an old man with gasoline in his veins and will be inheriting a plethora of petrol powered beasts and turbo'd German cars.

Were there any mentions of it's price? Did I miss that?

The surrons range from £4200 to £8900

Yea I read it as there quoted useable range in whole , real world will be a lot less.

not enough for what they pigeonhole hole it for its uses to me.

get the idea of the drive train and great for it.
I see most if not all electric bikes at the moment still in their infancy, cars have gotten a lot better in recent years. Just wonder when bikes will begetting their milestone.

Having ridden a few surrons now, the immediate torque is mental! I have seen them ridden up 75 degree concrete etc. The immediate, full power delivery is something else. Zero need to wait for revs or even to discuss rev ranges as they simple do not apply. The obvious issue being range.

I may well actually just buy a surron for shitz n gigz as they are bonkers little machines

Off road electric makes more sense, don't need to do 80mph for 3 hrs, slow and plenty of torque you probably get worn out before the battery

This. They are nuts to hole onto. Pretty light weight and have some serious peak torque available both immediatley AND constantly
