runningman Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Hopefully someone can give me some advice. Got a hospital appointment at Hammersmith Hospital on Friday and looking at taking the bike instead of train and tube. Looking at the Hammersmith and Fulham Council website, it would appear that you can use general use bays (I read this as normal car park bays) free of charge. Can anyone confirm this is correct or not, or if there are any solo motorcycle bays in the general area? There are 201 spaces at the Wormwood Scrubs car park, which is just behind the hospital. Looks ideal. Thanks Quote
Simon Davey Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 No idea @runningman, but, have you looked at the hospital website about parking? Quote
Fish Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I'd recommend the train over parking a bike around that part of London. Just a suggestion. 1 Quote
daveinlim Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I played on the wormwood scrubs/ linford christoe ground for the last 12 years. I've never paid to park my bike. Never even thought about it. But that would be in the evening or weekend. It's not the greatest area so I've always had multiple locks on my bike. Nothing ever happened to any of my bikes over the years but I'd only be there 2 hours at most and would within earshot of it all the time. You can park in the hospital. On the road into linford christie from ducane road I've regularly seen bikes parked in the hospital carpark Quote
rob m Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 If you're going on the bike to the hospital then go an hour before your appointment and look for a space. On Google Maps there are some scooters parked at the front. Take a chain and lock as standard, it's London. If it was me, I'd ask at the security gate a bit further down and take it from there. They should be able to advise (fingers crossed). Thousands of people commute on motorbikes in London so it shouldn't be an unusual request. Or call the hospital, they must get requests for parking info all the time. Nearest overground train station is Shepherds Bush and the nearest tube is East Acton. Both a lengthy walk. Buses stop right outside the hospital. So there's other options. I lived at Hammersmith Hospital for 2 years in the early 90s when I was a student nurse, I have fond memories of some crazy times. Some fo the best times of my life in fact. While typing this, I remember when they introduced 20mph limits to the area around the same time. There were some murmuring of dissatisfaction but everybody just got on with it. 30 years later when a 20mph limit is announced, everybody shits their pants. The difference? The internet wasn't around then. Hope your appointment goes well. 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 If you have to, chain the bike properly through either the rear wheel or better frame to something very solid even if it’s not in a bay but to a lamp post etc on the grounds, aslong as its not impeding pedestrians (photo proof is good). still buy a ticket. If its london add another chain ( front wheel to the exhaust header or what ever possible, disc lock and light weight cover… Quote
runningman Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 Thanks for the advice everyone. Much appreciated. Outside the hospital with all the scooters looks to be a good option, judging by that picture. Only there to have 24 or 48 hour holter (heart) monitor fitted and will then need to take it back either over the weekend or on the Monday too. 1 Quote
