k3lv Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Hi folks hope all are well , so my issue, got the gsxr out for a ride (not used it much this year) and it smokes and smells bad of raw fuel , also ticks loudly, looked down the intakes and the valves are open on no3 ....all others (I can see) are closed is this right or am I stripping the engine ? Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 (edited) Sounds obvious from the off…. fuel not being burned properly, smoke from oil passing the seals/rings, ticking from messed up piston hitting what is left of the valve (pieces), scratching the bore, bits all over the show. Similar to what car a saw and heard trying to drive off in the other direction. Depends if you looked at it when the valve was opened on it revolution and ment to, If its open or closed all the time as you rotate the cycle and not ment to then yes it’s very bad news. Valve may have broken, damaged the piston, head, rings and bore. Very small pieces end up in all sorts of places, oil pan, filter and pick up, cam shaft area….just to name a few. k3lv Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 Just done a compression test and from left to right (sat on the bike) 138,136,150,138 All cylinders hold the pressure for at least 15 mins each , bike starts and runs has white smoke at idle and goes black when revved .....which can sometimes make the bike cut out Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Any other information you’re not telling to help us? The ticking could be just the chain or the tensioner. White/blue is coolant, black/grey is oil. could be the carb mixture is incorrect. Quote
Bianco2564 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 White “smoke” from the exhaust could be just normal water vapour burning off as it warms up. Black smoke sounds like too rich mixture, also could cause cutting out. Choke stuck? Floats stuck? Quote
k3lv Posted October 23, 2024 Author Posted October 23, 2024 It's injection model , just done a head gasket test that Seems fine , CCT is fine ........spark plugs are black and sooty (new plugs) ....don't know where else to look maybe fuel pressure regulator? Quote
Hairsy Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 The white (assuming it genuinely white and not blue) is most likely water vapour. With good compression, it's unlikely to be coming in through the head gasket so could well be residual condensation in the exhaust. Black smoke is a rich mixture, backed up by the sooty plugs. My first step would be incoming air pathways. Make sure that the air filter is clean and there's no blockage anywhere in the air inlet route. Does it have a Power Commander or anything similar? Quote

No pc and even ran it with the airbox off and still the same Currently up at hospital waiting on my baby boy so as soon as I get 5 mins I'll have another look ....seems getting hold of a fuel pressure regulator is like finding unicorn sh#t so I hope it's not that Quote
Hairsy Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Hope your baby boy is OK. That's what you call a proper priority. It's a really odd issue you've got, particularly with it running fine last time. Clutching at straws but perhaps a temp sensor has gone kaput and is sending a wildly odd level of resistance to the ECU. But that doesn't seem terribly likely to cause the level of richness that you're getting. Keep us updated! Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Yea hope mini boi better quick! It might just do that, it’s a very early version of injection If it can’t have a reading it’s expecting, better to run rich than lean for engine conservation! Quote
k3lv Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 Hey guy thanks the messages...my boy Saxon is doing fantastic all back home now checking him for hypoparathyroidism...but nothing too serious so all good tried to get the bike into dealer mode but nothing was coming up on the clocks .... usually always get the -c00 but now it's just the temp ....maybe a broken wire ? 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Temp as in air or coolant? that is actually important to know. Quote
k3lv Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 I'd say coolant .....but that's going off of I've only ever seen the 1 temperature measurement Quote
