always still a possibility of being suddenly damaged through mindless acts as they do travel south beyond the place residing, or even just plain failure.
fabric roofs and mechanical parts (costly) have a certain life span even if looked after properly so wear,tear,failure is very much a possibility especially with age.

So davidtav its very much up to you what cap you set for this car (as in what cost limit of repair) before hand, preventive measures are cost effective.

The Mini has been vandalised a few times over the years. Car has been keyed a couple of times. It is slightly eye catching and for some reason has attracted idiots like that. Fortunately the roof has never been damaged. The roof is probably the best bit of the vehicle actually. It was completely replaced by BMW under warranty when the car was 3 years old. Because the heated rear window had developed a fault. They replaced the complete roof!

Lochgilphead is a nice wee place. Only time I've been there was on a boat via the Crinan Canal. Made the mistake of transiting the weekend before West Highland Sailing Regatta Week. Every muppet in the Clyde was trying to go through at the same time. Total and utter chaos.
