I used an app called Stellarium, just point your phone and it'll label whatever you point at. Not the neighbours, of course.

One of the things I like being at sea for. Zero light pollution and in the southern hemisphere particularly much less high altitude haze due to there being much less landmass down there.  Sometimes when it's really clear and there's no moon there are so many stars visible in the Milky Way it's almost like a white cloud.
