Morning folks,

I am well into recommissioning my st1100 which I intend to keep for many years. I am working in a dry wooden garage but I dont think we're out of the condensation days yet. I'll be removimng the drive shaft whilst I deal with the swing arm. What's a good way to protect it? My thoughts at the moment are to give it a light ACF50 and wrap in brown paper I use for masking when spraying. I'll jeep the ACF off the splines and universal joint. Sound reasonable as it'll be off for a month or so?

(I've secured the front end better now!)

Thanks,

Dave

A very light covering in anything oily will be good. Personally, I wouldn't wrap it as I'd be worried that I'm just as likely to risk trapping water in than keeping it out.

Best bet if you're concerned would be to take it indoors and hide it in the bottom of a wardrobe. If you need space, remove some of your wife's shoes and put them in the garage. A light spray of AC50 should keep them fine for a month.

If the part is to sit about in an otherwise dry garage, do you need something as expensive as ACF50? Would WD40 not do, or even a bit of engine oil?

Acf50 is expensive?

You buy a bottle from sportsbikeshop following the link in the forum for about 25 quid and it will last several years.

I would say that wd40 would require at least 2 or 3 cans per year

If it's just the splines you are worried about. I would use some grease.  But anything that is a bit sticky and oil like should work.

Thanks folks, I am going for the in house option and removing SWMBO shoes. If you never hear from me again you'll know why!!!!
